Bowl Number 6, What Do You Think?

My first one blew up, the second one came off the chuck, and number three I sanded threw the bottom....... Four and five came out very thick sided. So here is number six:

Looks good. Way to hang. What kind of wood is it and how big is it? On the ones you sanded through the bottom, try gluing another piece of wood on and returning it. I did a couple like that and they came out very nice. Also, thick sided bowls can be thinned down. Just put 'em back on the lathe and keep turning.

The bowl is about 6 1/2" across and 3" tall. The wood is soft maple. Thanks for the comments!

Nice bowl there, sir! Maple, eh? The figure and color almost could pass for some member of the olive family.

Nice thing about bowls is that there are SOOOOOO many shapes that are pleasant to touch and easy on the eyes. This is one of those.

There are some among us that have foot fetishes. At least when it comes to things turned. Some like 'em, some don't. Just a personal taste thing, same as with those who might buy your work. Some won't even look at a footed anything. Some others see feet as belonging only on "practical" bowls.

I especially like the transitions between flats and curves on your piece. The rim moves nicely to the inside and then swoops into the bottom. The sides have the straight taper that moves to the compound curve at the bottom, too. Nicely done. Doesn't jerk the eye. And the curve looks like it just keeps on going right on through the foot. Nice work!
