    Help me identify this wood

    Greetings,

While driving around the neighborhood today, I found 2 boards measuring 14.5" wide by 43" long by 1-1/4" thick in a neighbor's trash...(OK - so call me a garbage picker!). But, I could not leave these behind.

I can't figure out what kind of wood this is. It has many attributes of oak, but the color doesn't seem right for oak. The wood is in it's natural color and hasn't been stained. The boards are not laminated.

I have attached some pics of my find. Do you guys know what the wood species is ?

What could the value be ?

    cheers
    den

It could also be Meranti. I just looked through my stack and it looks a little like both from your pictures.

It's mahogany. From the pictures, it looks like genuine mahogany, or what used to be called Honduras Mahogany. I work with it a lot...
