    Cold Weather Spraying

I've done a bit of research during the past week and am getting close to a decision on an HVLP conversion spray gun. The weather however is getting cold in the mountains of NC and I am wondering how that affects spraying.

A little info and perhaps you can offer some advice - My preference is shellac, but am open to suggestions if this isn't the season for shellac. Normally I finish with the big door open (garage size) for ventilation and would like to do the same while spraying. I would limit this to days when the temp is at least 50 to 60 F which is not uncommon around here. Around noon the sun is coming directly into the shop and it's reasonably comfortable.

Currently I'm building a desk, although many of my projects a smaller.

If you think there would be problems with shellac, please offer suggestions for alternatives.

The fact that you use shellac is very much in your favor...it's much more tolerant of lower tempuratures. Of course, you'll want to be careful with whatever kind of heat you use...turn off anything with a flame for sure before spraying and for a little while afterward until the alcohol dissapates. You absolutely need to wear a proper mask, too.
