I spent a couple of hours today taking the noise out of the belt drive of my old Blount wood lathe built on a machine lathe chassis. This lathe was amortized out of the Mission High School shop in San Francisco about forty-five years ago. It is an old flat belt lathe with three step pulleys to give three speeds. I have turned all kinds of things on this lathe over the years and will hate to see it go, but time doesn't stop. I will be talking to an auctioneer this weekend about selling most of our household stuff as well as my tools. I do intend to purchase a non vs Jet mini lathe and adapt Mark Kauder's method of using one of the Vega motors to convert the mini to vs that will go all the way down to 0. That way I will still be able to do some woodworking without a full shop. Don't know how long it will take, but with any luck I might get it ready in time to do some Freedom Pens.
