    Dying Pine

I need to color pine window casings and door jambs to a shade more compatible with red oak trim. My plan for the oak is to leave it natural and finish it and the colored pine with a waterlox finish (original finish sealer). My thoughts for the pine are a garnet (not enough red?) shellac tinted with a bit of liquid transtint in a reddish brown or blending several dyes together to get that pinkish red color of the oak and then a shellac sealer in amber or garnet. Anybody have any experience with color matching these two woods?

I figured I'd ask for a starting point before I go mixing trial batches for scrap tests.

You might check at your local library and look at the Oct (I think) issue of Fine Woodworking. It had a good article on dying pine. Pine is tough to dye and not make it look splotchy.

thanks, forgot to check there (subscriber to both magazine and online). Also forgot Homestead finishing forum where Jeff provides a ton of useful info.
