    Belated Christmas Toy Box

I just finished this toy chest for my niece this afternoon. The chest is made of walnut while the top is also walnut and accented with African Mahogony. The finish is very simple; two coats of shellac followed by four coats of satin poly.
Any and all constructive crticism is more than appreciated!!!

  2. Dennis, it looks fabulous. I'd sure keep my toys in it...

I imagine it took some time to piece that top together. How did you flatten it after the glue up?

    Hello Jim,
At 18" it was too wide to run through my 13" planer, so I used a belt sander instead.

That's a beautiful toy box. My only comment would be about the cross-grain construction on the top. Did you account for this somehow when joining the pieces?

    Regards,

    Hey Ted,
I used biscuits on every glue up when constructing the top. I figured it's going to see a lot of use and movement over the years, so I wanted to try and make it as durable as possible.

    Dennis,
That is a great toy box. The lines are fabulous. Durable is a good idea I've found with my kids. Bombproof might even be better.
I could cry for the time I've wasted, but thats a waste of time and tears.
