    rocking chairs are...

    ... hard to make!

I finished this one up in time for christmas. Lots of lessons learned.

The steam set-up and steaming was really easy and fun. (plywood box, radiator hose, coleman camp stove, pot of boiling water covered with a make-shift plywood top)

The actual constructing of the chair was a chore - with the mortise and tenons *and* angles.

Glueing up was interesting too - although I glued up the sides first (they were straight) and then the front and back (the angles) Dividing it was easer.

The back was originally supposed to be one piece, but my band saw kicked out on me, so i had to scramble and find another interesting walnut back, which ended up being three pieces instead of one.

all in all, i'm happy with the way it turned out, even though it took a lot longer than i thought it would.

Really nice work, Julie. Chairs are tough. ROCKING chairs are and amazing amount of extra complexity, IMHO. Bravo!

    Very nice work!
I like the three pieces in the back.
I'd like to build a rocking chair some day.

Very nice Julie - I have plans for a rocking chair, just no time to build it.

Excellent Julie. You stated rocking chairs are hard to make! I did my first set of chairs about 10 months ago and I have been plugging away for almost 36 years with wood.

My point is... I feel all chairs are hard to make and I will leave them in the hands of chair-makers as I don't intend to tackle anymore soon.

Again.. well done and especially without being familar with some of the procedures involved.

    Regards...

    Sarge..
