    White Oak "Masterpiece"

About a week ago I posted a picture of a White Oak bowl that was cracked so badly I was going to burn it in the wood stove. A number of you talked me into saving it. Well here it is. It is sure not what I would call a Masterpiece but it did come out better than I thought it would. I used a bunch of epoxy and a little red brown dye.
Thanks for convincing me to save this one.

One heck of a save there bud. Beautiful work. I have done similar things and they are always a peasant suprise. Welcome to the world of never burning another piece of wood again!

Now isn't that a more interesting piece than one of clear white oak?

    Good job!

Thanks for all the kind words. It was kind of fun and a little bit scary.
Jeffery I didn't use the helmet but I did stand back till I got comfortable with it. I did have to stop a couple times and do some filling along the way.
    Thanks again all.

Steve....2 years ago when I first started turning Raymond Overman sent me some wet cherry to turn into NEs. Here locally we don't have a lot of hardwoods......The first one I turned had a nice sized deficite in it. The 2nd one had what people who saw the photos here called wind shake or ring shake?.....At Raymond's suggestion I used epoxy and some 20+ year old instant coffee. I repaired it and finish turned it. My MIL was visiting from Illinois at the time and fell it love it. It resides in Illinois now.

Nicely done. The epoxy turns smooth as silk. The coloring looks great! You did a bang up job!
