Absolutely beautiful! The center mahogony stripe looks great. I understand your "disappointment" but it looks great this way. Very, very nice.

    John,
You, sir, have a nice eye for beautiful wood!!
Can I ask you what the dimensions are and how you did the dovetails? Hand or jig?

I want to make a couple of those myself and am saving for the Akeda BC 24" for that purpose.

Very nice...both the bed and the chest. And those animated "blankets" in the first picture are quite a special feature.... Great job!

Great looking chest John, looks like the girls already claimed it for their own.

Beautiful work. I was curious, though, what made you decide on the dimensions for the chest. As I was looking at the bed behind the chest, it felt like I wanted to see the blanket chest a bit longer and a little less wide to fit the bed better.

Please, don't take this as criticism. Your work is truly inspirational!

That's definitely one pretty bedroom set you got started. Makes me anxious to see what you do for the side tables & chests. (Bet your wife feels the same )

    All,

Thanks for all the kind comments. The piece was a lot of fun to make but pales in comparison to a lot of the pieces I see here.

    Bill,

That is exactly what my wife said about making 2 (one for each daughter) but the oldest daughter helps me in the shop (handles the planer outfeed and is getting pretty good with handplanes). So I guess this one will be hers and the next one will be her sisters.

    Greg,

I made the bed for last years xmas present.'

    Dave,

The dimensions are 45" wide x 22" deep x 21" tall. The wife made the call on the dimensions when I brought some pieces of MDF into the room and modeled some different dimensions and let her make the call.

    Greg Muller,

I used a D4 to cut the dovetails (got the VRS which was very nice to keep things clean). I got the jig a few years ago knowing I was going to be eventually building this piece and needing the capacity.
