Measuring sticks

Good day

Measuring sticks (I think that they are called Story Sticks), are not a new idea but usually, the distance that you can measure is as small as the half (or one stick) length and I wanted to measure with the same sticks even smaller distances than "one stick length".

The sticks that I made are 28" each and I can measure with them distances as small as 8" up to 52" (I mean, inside distance of a box or cabinet)

I also wanted to be able to measure the outside distance of a cabinet....

Do you know why usually, when we are thinking about a problem, we tilt our head to the left or right ?...
...to concentrate all the IQ in one place

So, I tilted my head to the left and what I came with is....on the pictures...

I've been making them for years. Take a old pop / beer can and cut it open, cut some strips that will go / fit the length of your tunnel. leave them about 1/4" longer. Bend 1/8 up on one end, insert into the tunnel and bend the other end up, now slide the wood strips in and the screws will push on the aluminum instead of chewing up the wood. Hope this helps Dale

As usual you have come up with a clever an elegant solution. I’ve used this method for a number of years, however Lee Valley as two adjustable connectors to accomplish this task and it only requires me to cut two sticks.

Thank you for the excellent idea....normally, I don't drink but I assume that one can of beer will not be harmful

The LV connectors are ok but IMO cost too much for two pieces of plastic and thumb screw (same price like Jorgensen hand screw clamps) and still I don't see any way that I can measure distances of 8"~52" with the same sticks.
