What do you think about this idea?

I saw the post on building your own R-Table and I had an Idea. What if you were to dado in a steel plate around the hole for your lift , then laminate over it then rout out for your lift. This would allow you to use magnetic clamps. This would make using feather boards easy. I'm sure there would be other uses as well. Whaddya think?

At first thought, the idea sounds like it has legs. Personally, if I were going to go thru the trouble to inlay a piece of steel around my lift, I would probably be better off just making the top out of steel so that I wouldnt have the limitation of where exactly my featherboards (etc.) could be placed.

Although, it wouldnt be bad to have a strip of steel boardering one edge of the lift, say about 4in wide that travels the length of the top, much like a miter slot(for that matter it could form the miter slot) and that would accomplish the task without the limitation of featherboard(etc.) placement. You would just have to make them longer. Just my $0.02
