    Laminated hollow form

Laminating timber provides me with the stimulation to push the boundaries. This form is 350mm diameter and 150mm deep. Working out how to achieve the curves was a real challenge, but the end product turned out ok.
The centre square part is macadamia, the yellowish area is white beech and the chevron parts are red cedar and pine.

Man, that's a gorgeous turning. Any way you can give a description of how you put it together?

Wow Jim, that is fantastic. Some people seem to have the ability to forsee what something like that will look like as they work and design it. I haven't a clue. I can only use the potluck technique.

    Gary,
If you try to visualize the piece as an assembly of rectangular blocks, before it was turned, you can begin to see how it was constructed. Look for the straight lines and visualize that they were originally sides of a rectangular block. The construction is relatively easy once you know how. The hard part is turning that lovely shape. Beautiful piece Jim!

Jim, very nice piece of work - very creative with the curves, etc. I hope you don't have any "cross-grain" issues in the distant future.
