    captured rings

Other than by hand is there an easier way to sand the inside of captured rings?

Get a friend to sand the rings by hand? That would be easier for you at least.

I think it's one of those things that you just have to bite the bullet on. Think of it as time to enjoy your woodturning.

The way I have done it in the past is after you have done the ring and before you turn the spindle to size wrap some sandpaper around the spindle and then turn the lathe on. It works well and take the hand ache out of it.

A couple others already explained this but here's a picture in case you're like me and can't understand without seeing it. The sandpaper is taped to the portion of the stem of this goblet where the rings were turned. Then you can hold the rings against the sandpaper with the lathe turning, roll them around a little, and get the inside sanded very nicely.

    Hey Jim,

I think I see a tool mark on the goblet on the right.

Thanks all, already do that but thought I might be missing something, I'm gonna try gluing different grit paper to some pipe insulation to make quick change sanders that will fit over the stem area. I'll let you know how they work, should be able to conform to the curve a little better than just paper on wood.

Get a little bitty person to use their tiny fingers to sand it for you.

That's not a tool mark. It's a stray dust spec. Either that or a molecule.
