    Wood sources in West Michigan

Wondering if there is someone that I am missing. I currently use Woodsource or Johnson's Workbench.

Rough-sawn is fine. It helps "pay" for the new planer.

Dave...you appear to be in Grand Rapids...would also suggest Atwood mill north of town about 15 miles and west of 131...also a trip to Johnson's in Charlotte will yield a bigger selection...a real road trip might be Frank Miller Lumber in Union City, Indiana (do a search - big place)...want to also invite you to the local woodworkers guild meeting (one occurred just last night) which meets second Tuesday of the month at Johnson's Workbench on Burton beginning at 7:00 PM...next meeting is April 8th.

    Thanks to all for suggestions.

Roger: I'll put that on my calendar and see if we can meet up. I was thinking of the road trip to Charlotte so I might just try that.

I usually use Johnson's myself but then again I usually don't stray too far from Oak. I am curious about the Atwood Mill you mentioned. Do they have a large selection there?

I got some nice 8/4 cherry last weekend from Hickory and Oak in Decatur, this was my first purchase from him,but it surely won't be my last.If you're in GR and don't mind a little road trip, email him for what's available and what's cookin' in the kiln.

You might try craigslist too. There are a few small millers who post in the materials.

P.S. Atwood is a nice drive. It's a bit west of 131 at 17 mile. bring a trailer.

They advertise in the press almost weekly, give them a ring.

  14. For school I use Indiana Wood Products in Middlebury, Indiana. It's between Middlebury and Shipshewana. I buy all rough sawn from them, mostly poplar, oak, walnut and maple, but I know they have lots more.
