    Excellent job Chris.

Looks awsome hanging off the end, nice outpost too.

Platter looks great with your son sitting in it.

I like your homemade outboard turning rig, I would like to copy the design and somehow make the distance from the lathe adjustable for deeper bowls as well as platters.

    Great job!

    i thought about going

my dads business is closing and we have to start getting stuff out (long story

it is adjustable the bend that hooks to the pipe on the lathe is 1-1/4" which slides over the 1" pipe

the whole thing is based on the info that was in the winter 2008 issue of wood turning design

    pine is fun to turn
this is done from 1 2x4

it has been sold already though (got good money for it

That is absolutely great! Gotta love those "dare's", they tend to push you to or over the limit.

    dares are great

    they expand your ideas

    and drive you insane

the bad part of the outboard rest is i can still go bigger than that one

i believe it will max out around 41"-42"

i will not be making anything that large yet

    How long?

I'm pretty sure of the production time on the one piece, but how bout the other?

obviously the laminated piece was "quick" the other piece (normal segmented work) was not all that bad

i did that as 2 halves and then glued them together

    Dale,

That distance is adjustable. Look at the pipe that is horizontal and you will see the set screw that locks down the pipes that slide out for greater depth. I am in the process of building the same rest.

I think if you give it time the finish will improve just from all the diaper polishing being applied. ;-)

    Amazing piece!

Both pieces are awesome. Never thought a 2x4 could look so good.
