    A new spin on life!

I'm hooked. I joined a couple of months ago and asked a question about getting started. Based on those responses, I read a couple of books a signed up for a class. For $50 I signed up for a pen turning class at Rocklers. This is the result of my first attempt ever at putting hand held steel to wood (curly pynmar) on a lathe:

I have a bit to learn. The flair at the end is a design I saw once and was curious about. I thought it would serve as a finger rest while writing. Doesn't work so well. But I love it anyhow! I like the way the grain lines up when its open and looks like a chevron when its closed. The burned rings were a result of the instructor having a wire near by. I need to learn about taking pictures and I have a lot learn about turning beads and coves. I am looking forward to learning it, even if it takes a life time!

Donn.......Great looking first pen! You are hooked! Take a photo of any money you have in your billfold and frame the photo. Place it on the wall near your lathe (if you don't own one...you soon will) so you can remember what money looked like. Then look in the mirror. You make be be broke but you will smile more! Congrats and well done!

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone and a funnybone.
