    A Poll For Another Forum To Be Added To This Site.

    Hi . My name is Bill Young and I live in BC, Canada. I just joined this site this evening and it looks like a nice well laid out user friendly site.
    Me and a lot of my fellow woodworkers are into the scrollsawing and fretwork phase of woodworking and some are into intarsia. I am wondering how much interest there would be for a new forum dedicated to Scrollsawing to be added to this site. I would like to see response from anyone that may be interested in this so that the administrator can take it into consideration.
    Best regards.

    Thanks for the compliment Cliff;
    Yep... you are right. It took a while for that one. It took about 80 hours including sawing, assembling and finishing it. .

    Welcome to the Creek, William! Yeah, this is a pretty nice place, with some great people, many of whom not only have great skills in woodworking, but are willing to share their knowledge freely. Stop often, stay long!

    As for the additional forum, I certainly can NOT speak for the moderators and administrators of this Forum. What I can tell you, is that there had been talk of creating a separate turning forum. After all was said and done, I believe most of the members decided that integrating the turning posts served everyone better. The point being, "General WW & Power tools" section is the most visited and gets the most exposure. Many of the flatwork folks still enjoy checking out the articles and pictures done on the "spinny" things. Personally, I have always been fascinated with the beautiful scroll-work and intarsia. I also paid a visit to your album pages, as well. Cripes William, when do you find the time to do all that?! Anyhow, if I were to "vote" on the above, I'd say we keep you scrolling guys (and gals) with the rest of us! It's always a pleasure to stumble upon such work while going through the general posts. This, of course, is but one man's opinion, and if you ask around here, mine doesn't go very far! Hope to "see" more of you, as well as more pics of your work!

    Welcome, William.

    I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other about a new forum.

    That said, if you haven't found the "View new posts" button on the upper right of the main page screen, you might want to try it out - definitely helps for sifting through the traffic.

    I agree with John that, although I am not (yet) into scroll sawing, I like to see information about it and that I am more likely to do so if threads on it are included in this forum.

    p.s. It is nice to see a fellow Canadian using this site. I discovered Saw Mill Creek earlier this month and have been very happy with what I have seen and with the advise that I have received.

    Ed;
    Thanks for the *view new posts* tip. I'm still doing a little navigating of the site and that helped.

    One of the things that sets SMC apart from a number of other woodworking forms on the 'net is the fact that it's been kept less-granular from a forum standpoint--by member choice. The net result is that we all get better exposure to methods, techniques and tools that we normally might not if they were segregated into dedicated forums. SMC is more of a "community" and as such we all share universally. For that reason, I would not be in favor of a separate forum for scrolling.

    William,
    I use the "View New Posts" more than I go directly to a specific forum. So it really doesn't matter too much to me...so I think it should stay as is.

    I'm glad you are onboard and I look forward to your posts. You will inspire people I'm sure..

    The General WW'ing/PT forum is too big. Good threads go whizzing by too fast and get "lost" on pages 2, 3, 4, etc.

    I'd like to see a Finsihing forum myself and scrollsaw stuff sounds fine, too. Also, I'd like to see a turning forum.

    I'm in the minority but that's cool.

    Did you know SMC is user supported? Please help.

    Thanks to all the responses to my Poll. I understand what you are saying and have no objections . It was just a passing fancy suggestion. I also belong to another genral WW site which includes all methods of WW'ing including , furniture , bandsaw boxes and scrolling, tools and just about everything in between. So I am just as happy with the way it is and I will check back often. I like the fact that the site is not cluttered up with commerials and pop up ads like some of the others are.
    This looks like a great general WW site <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_7.gif' border=0></a>

    I've done a lot of scroll stuff over the years. Mainly intarsia and toys. Fretwork is not for me. I may get into marquetry soon for some small projects which I'll use my RBI for.

    I agree with John and Jim among others to keep this a general forum. I have gotten some great ideas just seeing lots of different projects posted. I'm not sure about this, but there may be a forum out there already which is dedicated strictly to scrolling. Can someone chime in and tell him the url, please?

    Oh yes Stan. There about as many scrollsaw forums out there as Heinz has pickles but my favorite one of the whole bunch is the scrollsaw forum in the JustWoodworking site.
    Here's the link to it.

    William, would you mind emailing the link to me please, it looks like it was deleted. Odd as it may seem, I found this great community a few months back, because it was included in message on another woodworking forum. Thanks Rick

    Check your mail . I sent the link.

    Moderator. I am new to the site and didn't realize I was against the rules with posting that link.
