    First Two Bandsaw Boxes

My first projects on the new Grizzy 513X2 bandsaw are two bandsaw boxes.

The first is the "Minnow" from Lois Keener Ventura's "Building Beautiful Boxes…" made from layers of walnut.

The second is my own design from a photo of two sperm whales swimming together. The front has the two whales. The top of the box and the third drawer (in back) represent the whale fluke. I had this idea in the back of my mind when I found this piece of walnut with sweeping lines that had the feel of waves or motion. The knotty area on the bottom left beneath the whales looked like a rocky ocean bottom.

Very nice boxes. The 2nd one almost looks like a bird in flight. I have that book "Building Beautiful Boxes" and one of these days I am going to make one of her boxes. Maybe seeing your boxes will encourage me to get moving. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice Brian! I am going to make some boxes next, and I also have that book. How difficult would you say they were? Were there any parts that were harder than the book makes them out to be?

    Peter,

It was very straight forward and easy. Really encouraging to me since there were no unique magic skills. She shows the steps and they worked.

I prefer the two whales box, I always like to see original thought and particularly when it is well executed, well done!
