    Grizzly G0513X2 Dust Collection

I have a 1 1/2HP Rigid DC with a 4" inlet. I have a router table that was originally designed to have two 4" DC ports, one in the fence and one in the cabinet. Neither worked well for collecting the chips that the router bits produced until the ports were reduced to 2 1/2". My theory is that the 4" inlet has 12.5 sq inches of opening, and the two 4" ports provided too big of an opening. When reduced to 2 1/2", the open area was reduced to 10 sq inches.

I noticed that the Grizzly G0513X2 has two 4" DC ports. For the experienced owners out there, how much DC capacity do you have or think it needs?

Do you think my DC is adequate for a Grizzly G0513X2?

What is good enough is something of a subjective question. I used a Ridgid shopvac on my G0513X2 for about 6 months. It didn't do a great job, but kept the bottom cabinet clean. I use a 2HP Grizzly unit now and it does a good job. I think a 1 1/2 HP dust collector will do a fine job if you ar not doing lots of ducting.

Of course a big cyclone would do a much better job of limiting your fine dust exposure. A lot will also depend on the placement of your bandsaw, do you have any ventilation, etc. Overall, I think you are fine with a 1 1/2HP DC - if you could get a 1 micron bag for your DC that would be great.
