Grizzly vs Steel City vs Oliver.
Grizzly is 4 to 5 hundred cheaper, are the two others worth the price??

I have the Griz 1071. Great value!! Check for more comparisons in thread by Pete Kurki somewhere below.
I had the same question a couple months ago. I couldn't make up my mind and so still haven't purchased an oscillating spindle sander. If someone says something like their grizzly burned up or fell apart into pieces while sanding a project, that would help me make up my mind.
Matt...I would throw Jet into the mix as well. They make 2 excellent OSS, one bench and one free standing.
My favorite cologne is BLO
Two things I wish for, now that I have had the Grizzly for two years:
- Variable speed - the larger spindles need the slower speeds.
- A tilting table - true, I could use wedges, but it would so much nicer if the table tilted...
Other than that, it is a heck of a bargain.
.
I have had the pleasure (?) to use both the Jet and the Grizzly for too many hours. I found no difference to speak of in either units...they both did the job and covered me in sawdust by the end of the day.
For my money, between these two only, I would go with the grizzly on because of price.

I don't know if the others are worth the difference but I have used the Griz 1071 commercially in a shop with 7 guys using it daily for years. A few of us (not me of course) beat it like a red headed step sander. Never a problem. Its one of the best grizzly machines I have encountered.
Plenty of power, good table size, the table does tilt, thats what the trunion is for, over all well engineered machine for the small to medium shop. I imagine if you really needed variable speed you could achieve that with a pulley change or spring for a VFD.
I'll throw a 2nd vote in for the JET. Mine is rock solid & smooth.
