thanks, yes the table is for outdoor use.

Pettit's Marine Grade Captains Z-Spar Varnish - Traditional Amber. 6 coats on the top, four everywhere else.

I also made little Expoxy feet. I used bottle caps. Put the epoxy in the bottle caps and then pryed them out of the bottle cap mold.

I hot glued the epoxy feet to the bottom of the legs.

The table top has to weigh over 150lbs.

Last fall I dropped part of it on my toe. I think i broke my toe back then.

Nice job, Joe. Looks like lots of good times ahead. Very nice thing to do for a friend. That old barn sure has seen better days, and will live on in this table.

Joe, thanks so much for posting this project and pictures! A couple of months ago I picked up a large load of reclaimed white oak beams from an old dairy barn. I set aside some for a mantle and support legs. The rest is not assigned to anything specific yet...but I had planned on a rustic coffee table, and possibly a kitchen table too.

Could you post or PM some measurements?

    Thanks!

The table measures 9' 11" long ( I had to maximize the lenght) 40ish inches wide. And its 1 1/2 inches thick

The legs were 2 1/2 inch square and 29 inches long ( or whatever is standard for legs), the skirting (rails) are 5 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick.

    The legs were M&T. The stretchers were 1 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches.

If these mesaurements are incorrect, I will be out there on my friends farm on Sunday. I will take measurements and post if different than above.

Hey Joe, thanks. Since you're heading out there, could you take some more pictures? Perhaps some up close and detailed shots of the joinery and other spots?

Also, let me know if you have any special tips for taking a project on like this. I'd certainly like to make use of as much of the experience as possible you gained by taking the beams to furniture!

    Thanks!

Nice work Joe. There had to be a ton of milling work involved to go from the rough to the finished and dimensioned lumber.

That's quite a project. Well done!
