    Just One Bandsaw Blade

Next week I will be ordering a 514X2. I have a number of logs to resaw so I was assuming a 1" Tri-Master. Pricey, but something that will last a long time.

After re-orging the shop to make room for the beast, I discovered some turning blocks that have spalted or matured with great beauty. I'm thinking I want to resaw these into small boards for jewelry boxes and small cabinets.

Would a 3/4" blade be a good general size for this type of work (big logs, small blocks) or would I be better off with the 1"?

    Thanks,
    Burt

Hi Burt: Why just one? Do you only have one paint brush, pair of pliers, hand saw, router bit, you get the idea.

I use Timberwolf blades, one for greenwood to cut turning blanks, and one for resawing dried lumber. They make special blades for each use. Suffolk Machinery is the source.

By the way, I use a Griz 513X, very similar to your machine.

    Best regards, Tom

Burt if you do the eBay/PayPal thing. I would look into the Microsoft Live.com cashback program that has been the subject of a few threads. Right now (10/2 10pm EDT), you could get the G0513x2 for $895 + $96.50 S&H - $200 MS cashback (Notice the price is $895 and not $950). GrizAuctions is Grizzly Industrial; same company.

No telling when the offer will end. (The offer is actually 30% off any buy it now purchase with a $200 cap)

    Anthony,
Can't connect to microsoftlive.com. Must hate FireFox and SwiftWeasel. Or Linux. Since I switched to Linux I never touched Windows again and don't plan on doing so.

Went to GrizAuctions. Nothing being auctioned.

    Tom,
I'm keeping my 0555 for use with smaller blades. About 90% of the wood I'll be cutting with the 514 will be logs and log segments - all pretty big stuff. I could never get good slices with the 0555 no matter what blades or techniques I used.

The website is www.live.com. make sure to search and read thought the threads to gat a handle on what you have to do.

I thought you could search by seller's name, but searching for G0513x2 brings up the saw.

How do you determine which tooth pitch to use, especially for resawing?

With an 18" BS.. I find no reason to go larger than a 3/4" 3 tpi for re-saw. I used a 1/2" Wood-slicer for years. If I had a 20" BS.. I might consider 1" even though I know 1/2" will actually work fine.

    Sarge..
