Thread: How would you attach these sides?

How would you attach these sides?

This is a pic of a jewelry box I saw online. How would you attach the sides to the legs? The sides are about 6" high.

Could you just glue the sides directly to the legs, using a band clamp, or would you then be gluing across the grain and have later problems? (But maybe the small size would eliminate the worry for wood movement?)

?? I always get confused with this stuff !!

Dadoes in the legs would work. Biscuits, or dowels as well. My vote would be dadoes!

Depending on the thickness of the sided, I'd consider either a stopped dado or rabbet. If the sides are thick enough, mortise and tenon or dowels. I don't think I'd opt for a simple butt joint, even with biscuits.

Sliding dovetail and only glue the top

For a 6" joint, I don't think I would worry too much about cross grain movement, but if you believe it would be a problem, James' suggestion of a sliding dovetail glued only over a short length would handle it.
