    Christmas gifts - cutting boards

Made these for family. Two are cherry, walnut, and maple, and two are maple and purpleheart. Fun to make although I wish I had a drum sander instead of having to belt sand them flat.

    Enjoy!

Very good looking cutting board design, Chris. I am working with some maple now on gift kitchen knife holders. I love the look of maple when finished but... I hate to plane it as it's grain holds deep and dark secrets that will jump out and bite you if you mis-judge grain direction and maple often has grain that wil change direction in the middle of the stream.

    Very nice gifts indeed....

Yeah Sarge, I know what you mean about the maple. I've only worked with it a little, mostly on these cutting boards. I found that I had to take light passes with the jointer and planer to avoid chunking it. And I had to pay extra careful attention to grain direction to avoid cutting uphill. Purpleheart isn't much better either. That stuff is HARD!

    Great Job Chris!!!
I find of all the things to make for Christmas gifts, cutting boards are the most fun. I'm sure your cutting boards will be the topic of conversation for the day.
    Great job.
