    Walnut dresser

    Hi all
I just finished this dresser, it is loosely based on federal style furniture. The materials are california walnut veneer and solids, ebony, mother of pearl and holly. The curved drawer fronts are made with two layers of 1/4" bending luan and three layers of italian bending poplar. The bending poplar makes up either face and a center layer between the luan. Feel free to ask any questions

Wow - very nice work. Walnut is definitely top shelf stuff. What is your finish?

I love our regular old black walnut, but WOW that stuff is "georgeous"!!! (not mispelled - I understand the new "urban" meaning is
"a transcendent beauty that forever consumes the hearts and minds of any who gaze at its stunning perfection.) How is that for the word of the day!

I assume the sides are solid - if not, you did some remarkable grain matching.

Overall, a great looking piece. I am not a lover of this style, but I sure can appreciate the tremendous work you did on this. It turned out very well.

    Awesome on so many levels.
    I like the string inlays.
    I love the figure.
And a big hat tip to the curved front drawers. That's beyond my skill.

Walnut rules. There are just no two ways about it.

Stupendous craftmanship and you did superb justice with that curly (claro?) walnut.
    Wood: a fickle medium....

Did you know SMC is user supported? Please help.

Excellent work and beautiful wood and matching. Based "loosely" on Federal design, huh.... I think about everything that gets built is based loosely on some design from our past.

    Well done...

To answer some of the questions.
The sides are bookmatched veneer, the only solid wood visible is the base and the rails or strecthers between the drawers.
The finish is homebrewed oil/poly mix about 50%oil based poly, 25% tung oil and 25% naptha. probably 6 coats.
The veneer was claro walnut which is actually fairly hard to find, I built an entertainment center out of the stuff and had some left over so i built this piece and just started on a Greene and Greene style writing desk out of the last of it.
