Okay Scott, meet me at the turnpike entrance/exit, I'm heading your way....:D
Cool, thanks!!
What's your opinion on using walnut for this? I have tons of 1" X 6" X 18" walunut slabs.
Actually if you have a drillpress and a lathe, you already have both, well, almost. You can mount a sandpaper drum in the drill press and using a homemade jig you have the drum sander. Using a flat...
Scott, what Woodcraft store do you use, Tulsa? I am lucky enough to be close to KC so I use that one. Wichita is big enough to have one, I'm suprised someone has not gotten a franchise up there.

Well I would have guessed either Mark or Dennis, Mark it is. Dennis mentored me when I first started and was in ArKansas. I still have a ton of pen blanks that he gave me when I first started,...
Didn't see where anyone answered your question about tension, though it appears that the tension was/is not the problem. When I change speeds I just let the weight of the motor tension the belt. I...
Wow Hilel, I've been doing chucking the exact same way as you describe and for the exact same reasons. I use my skew as a scraper using the angle as the guide for the dovetail. Now I'm not sure what...
If you have had that many electrical devices bite the dust, you might have an electrician check the voltage coming into your house. I found where I lived before that my voltage was quite high and...
Beautiful work and gesture of kindness and caring.
There is a lot to be said for keeping the pen as a live and learn. I like to try to fix my less than desirable results which is also a learning process. I have taken several pens apart and "fixed"...
CA is Cyanoacrylate or super glue. Great stuff for pens. I use the Gorilla brand from Home Depot. I find it works better than other brands and is slightly less expensive.
Very nice and unique. I can't tell from the picture, is the "hole" an actual hole? It looks like it might be a piece of walnut to simulate the hole.
Tom, others may have different opinions, but I strongly suggest getting Lyle Jamieson's DVD "Bowl Basics the Easy Way". It covers about everything relative to bowl turning. Highly recommended.
You get Kansas State purple !!! Go Cats !!
I've been needing an excuse to visit my brother-in-law in St. Charles, however after the verbal lashing I took from LOML when I brought the three massive maple chunks home I had better pass. I sure...

Nice work, well actually outstanding..
Ed Davidson (aka YoYoSpin) has a video on his website for the stars and stripes pen blank. You should check it out.

Bill, I sent you a couple of emails with info.
When I saw you were 351 miles east of Bernie I knew you had to be close by. My in-laws had a Berryton address for about 22 years. I'm in Topeka. I would like to invite you to the Kansas Woodturners...
Hi Mark!!
Good to see you back at the lathe and on the 'Creek.
Nice work. Love the NIP.
BTW how are things in AR and ACX? I see Dennis on facebook a lot, looks like he still has a job....
Thanks, not sure what finish to put on it yet. Funny thing; when I showed it to my Granddaughter and then my Great Niece the following day, the first thing they both said was "where's it's eyes?".
