Sounds like great advice to me. Have you ever worked with paulownia?

The only thing I'd change on these Japanese style toolboxes is to add a couple of (retractable) luggage wheels and a handle.

You can do Frank's free hand method on tails first, too. I've been doing this for 30+ years; although, as Tom Vanzant can verify, they're not so neat if you haven't been doing them for 6 months or...
You plane two edges to mate, slop some glue on both, put them together and rub back and forth until they stick.

Thanks for getting me on track, Pedder. I got in the habit of shopping at Dieter's and/or DICK's 5 or 6 years ago when the dollar-mark relationship was more advantageous; but even today some good...
Dieter offers a set of 6 replacement blades, you just have to worry about shipping costs.

Nice job, Bob, looks great.

Perhaps it would benefit the user to start at the end of the piece and work his/her way backward, much like I do with molding planes.

How do you flatten a diamond plate? Send it back?

I was just saying that a lot of us don't much care for windsors as dining room chairs (I'll replace our ladderbacks with ladderbacks or a special fan back design I've been playing with).

No big deal, get some sleep. :)

That was my point, that in the effort to avoid all consequences of disaster, we make more disasters and waste a lot of money doing it.

Well, seems like it's a result of our stupid litigious citizens looking for a free engine or two. The manufacturers responded precisely as they had to.

So, whole house generators are flood proof?

Just for kicks I checked on my reliable UK tool suppliers, and found that Andrew Stephens of Inchmartine listed two 044's a few months ago, not marked as sold.
581/ FINE clean very little used...
Some years ago I bought a Record 044 and loved it so much I bought a Record 043 to keep it company. However, if the LV plow had been available at that time, I probably would have bought one of those....
Hmmm, I've got 6 or 8 cherry hand-made (not by me) ladder backs I wouldn't mind parting with for cheap (relative, of course).

I suspect that politics will keep down publicity about the storm, particularly FEMA, as in remember Katrina.

I've never worked with curly maple (no particular reason, never came across a supply), so I'm not all that sure how to handle the tear out you're experiencing. The Japanese scrapers are used to...
Don't know what's scary about this; however, I'd recommend contained bolts with nuts driven into the wood for moveable items, much like these.

I've worked with machines a lot, like maybe 30 years or so. I did choose that one of those machines would not be a planer or joiner. All the others have been no problem. And this is to say nothing...
I don't know what a beach sander is. As to setup, I think the instructors knew what they were doing, and based on reading I did at the time, generally everyone said that snipe was inevitable. I love...
I was using fairly big planers in the community college workshop. At the point they didn't work all that well (snipe), I decided they weren't worth the cost, money, space or noise.
Pam
My experience has been otherwise when using a tailed planer. The snipe caused just as much planing as without the planer.
