That's a better idea...or maybe wine stoppers. thanks!
yes it's still wet. Normally I'll wrap things up tight in a plastic bag when I'm done and come back and work on it the next day. if it's looking unstable I'll wet it down first for good measure. ...
After sitting in the shop overnight without the protection of a plastic bag...she's really starting to open up!

I saw a small hairline crack but wanted to see if it would turn out as I...
When the crack was smaller and running through the body of the piece I was thinking I might be able to get it finished and then do something along the lines of a decorative filler or maybe drill...
Greeting All,
Frequent reader and infrequent contributor here at the creek, I always enjoy what you all post so I'm getting started early on my New Year resolution to post more ;)
Nothing...
Before you go too far down the rabbit hole you should check out the Frugal Vacuum Chuck setup (google)...it might save you some time.
ouch, good thing you went into the shop the next day! I keep a good coat of paste wax on all my cast iron surfaces. easy to apply and cheap. maybe not as good as all that specialized stuff but it...
I personally really like turning hollow forms. I enjoy the challenge of cutting walls by feel and intuition when I can't see the end of the cutter and result of something that not only looks nice...
Nicely done, good color and shapes. struggling with finials lately myself I appreciate the pedestals and finial work in particular
Just a quick update to let everyone know that the Uvex shield did the trick. The headband cinches down enough to provide a stable fit on my daughters head and she was comfortable for an entire...
I was running neck n neck with ya until you got to "chainsaw chop saw". hardened drill rod tool rests sound interesting, I was just noticing this afternoon that a couple of my round bar rests...
That must have been one interesting turning session! great concept and execution, definitely stands out
Sorry about that, context right? Ken at WoodTurnersWonders. First time I've done business with him and very pleased. he was out of town when I ordered and he e-mailed right away to let me know...
I started turning around 11yrs ago but I wouldn't say "I've been turning for 11yrs", two young children and a list of other hobbies have meant that I seem to spend time at the lathe in pockets here...
Very thorough Geoff, thanks!
I think I'll order a Uvex and a Jackson to try out, they're both available on Amazon Prime so I'll be able to return either or both if I don't like them. She was...
Good info, thanks guys. I'll have to check out that Jackson one, how strong is the faceshield portion? One of my other hobbies is competitive shooting and my kids have a little business selling...
Greetings All,
Long time lurker/infrequent participant here. Turning is one of my many hobbies and I've been getting a bit more back into it these days, partially because of the reason for this...
Hmm, I think I'll pass....;)
That's the same progression I followed, but with a Jet midi. You're going to love the new machine once you get used to it. Congrats!
Having recently turned my first natural edge bowl I'll offer what is probably a "duh" piece of advice but I overlooked it so....after you get the bowl roughly rounded out don't forget to rebalance it...
Very nicely done. I especially like the detail at the top of the finial, more interesting than just a point
Best fire pit kindling ever...other than that they go in my brush pile to return to the earth
My turning chisels are nowhere near as sharp as my bench chisels, nor do they have to be. That said I highly recommend a nice 8" low speed grinder and a way to create repeatable angles be it...
Been there, done that, have the marred spindle to prove it (but no t-shirt)
