Tom, I offered but no-one responded. I've found a lot of enthusiasm if I deliver it cut and sealed but a whole lot less if they have to come and collect it from the source. So I just use it for...

Wes, we were very fortunate, some leakage from the 6 hours of torrential rain but the tornado missed us by approx. 1 mile. People on the other side of town were not so fortunate
Go for it Tom, it's remarkably easy. You will need a hot melt glue gun to stick the template in place. My bowl was already finished with WOP which made the glue removal very easy. Run a bead of glue...
Oh! That will be harder to fix  I guess I was just lazy with the pyro.
Pat, where did you see a reference to A. Chestnut? I'd fix it if I could find it! :-)
This platter was made from a huge load of walnut I got from my bosses husband. He had to fell two walnut trees to make way for a new workshop. Rather than see any of this wood end up in a burn pile...
Tom, they are 0.7" butterflies that I got from http://www.stebbinsstudios.com/html/inlay_patch_order_page.html along with the template. On that site they suggest getting the router parts from MLCS...
Way back a couple of years ago I swapped a piece of Mesquite for some American Chestnut that Sparky Paessler had obtained. For a variety of reasons I only got around to turning it a few months ago....
This year was my 5th SWAT and I enjoyed all of it. I attended 7 out of 9 demo slots and learned something in all. I do agree that some of these demonstrators could have done some of their preparation...
I was thrilled to place again in the judging; came 6th out of 149 entries.
Scott, another great contribution that will thrill a child! Should wow the judges too! See you in a couple of days!
Jeffrey, I think the article you are referring to was the one posted by Kelly Dunn on WOW on July 14 titled "The Big Kahuna". I see you are a member there.
I resemble that remark! :D
I was told that was the method used in Australia to remove bark from their burls, especially brown & red mallee. Unfortunately I had to do mine with a wire brush in an electric drill
Dennis, that change to the finial makes a huge difference! I really like it!
How will I recognise you? Are you taking your cat :D
This is my 4th year to contribute to the Beads of Courage program at SWAT. This year I made a "tippy toy" Penguin that is a hollow form from Sycamore. The head comes off allowing a child to add or...

Steve, very nice. I'd like to see shots of the bottom of these. How did you mount them on the lathe? I've turned two and have a half dozen more and so far I've turned a tenon or mortise on the back...
I've never seen a definition of what constitutes a platter vs a bowl before and one of our senior club members called it a platter on Saturday so I just went with that. I would be perfectly happy to...
Basically, just fill your suitcase (or two). Anything more gets really complicated because you have to get certificates that it's been treated, etc. Lots of hard to follow info on the appropriate...
Thanks Tom,
I brought 62 lbs of Kiwi and Aussie wood in 2 cases! A large Silky Oak platter rough turned, some Pohutukawa pen blanks, a Rata bowl blank and a piece of Kauri from NZ and 5 burls from...
Just completed this platter from a burl I purchased in Australia in February.

It's 15" across the widest point and approx. 2 1/2" high. Finish is Danish Oil, buffed and waxed with...
Thanks everyone for these comments, it has been very helpful! I will do some more Googling as well as talk with some local guys about what they used. Then I need to check my budget!! At this point...
289682I was able to purchased this air compressor used for $250 for my workshop where my primary activity is woodturning. I know I need some plumbing and sort of moisture filter and maybe more...
