Hi All,
I’m in the market for a good quality, compound miter saw. I’ve been checking out the Festool 10”, Dewalt 779 (12”) and Bosch 12” with the robot arm. The positive reviews for all of them...
LOL! Not that I'm aware of, but entirely possible. I'm a sucker for April fools jokes! :-)
Shenanigans aside, a pretty interesting and enlightening talk that feeds the curious on this subject....
Sorry for brevity here...really enjoy the subject, but am responding from a tablet with a lame keyboard. Regardless, google "Ted talk how trees talk to each other". Watch that and it's hard to...
The 48" dimension is what I had available to me, it was not necessarily chosen that length. Plus after some research it looks like most that use that fence have the long-ways orientation. However,...
Thanks George. When I did that on the other assembly it worked for the most part, but I still had a little squeeze out on the wood itself, which I was able to easily clean with a chisel. I'm...
Hi All,
I'm working on a Mission style frame (yes, still, for those of you that helped with my joinery issue :-), and I need to do final assembly after staining. The frame holds a stained glass...
Three votes is good enough for me! :-) Long-ways it is!
Thanks guys!
I have casters on the cabinet for exactly that reason, so I can pull the fence onto the table in either orientation and roll the whole cabinet into a corner when not in use.
OK, so one vote for...
Hi All,
Just a general THANKS to everyone for responses to my various questions! I'm making some suggested upgrades to my dust collection, fixed my joinery issue and have learned LOTS. I...
Hi Everyone,
THANKS for alerting me to the seriousness of my considerations here, as well as the good feedback on how to go about it.
The idea I had in mind before venting outside was...
This is what I want to set up long term. Its a good thought though that I'd not considered, I probably do need to do a thorough one-time clean up, but for this thread I'm hoping to get feedback on...
Hi All,
Here is my situation... I have a basement shop and only work there in the colder seasons (live in NY Metro area), maybe 4-5 months and only on weekends a few hours at a time. I’m a...
I'm very happy with mine as well. Have had it for two years and have had no problems with it.
I'm going to try to trim the ends of the rails, ever so slightly and see how that works.
Thanks for everyone's help and feedback!
Someday I'll learn how to avoid having to do all of these...
It's a good question. It was a stupid thing to do with a ROS. There was some glue residue, but I probably could have cleaned that with just a few swipes by hand.
Oops, I mean upper left.
Trying that scares me! :-) I think I'd make more of a mess. I guess I could experiment on some scraps.
Dry fit, no it did not bottom out, but I sure wish it did. :-)
Hi David,

1. No, dry fit.
2. Single dowel at all 4 joints.
3. The joint is reasonably square (I'm a weekend warrior/rookie, so square is all relative :-)
4. Not already glued. ...
Hi Lee,
Good point...
It's a Mission style frame that will hold a stained glass panel. Attached is an additional picture. Original photo is upper right joint.

Yes, just clamped, dry. A dowel will hold them together when glued up.
They were as square as I could get them, before sanding. They looked really good before then.

Excellent - thanks guys! I don't know why I didn't consider the band saw. The table and chop saw got a lot of consideration and head scratching, but never the band saw. I guess I just needed...
Hi All (again), :-)
I'm still working on technique and accuracy and as a result I often end up with joinery that's a bit off. For most of what I do I don't care, but this is going to a friend,...
Hi All,
Any suggestions on how to safely make this cut? My blade height is about a 1/2 short of the desired depth. I considered making a few passes on my table saw and doing the rest with a...
