I also upgraded to V12 (VCarve Pro) the day it was released. Lot's of nice improvements and features. As Michael mentioned, the VCarve Inlay toolpath and Keepout features are key for me. For me it...
There are lots of combinations of setting and tools that will work for this, but one thing I always do is to run the V bit before removing any material with the clearance tool. It minimizes chipping.
I was once asked to test maximum feeds and speeds for cutting 1.25" aircraft aluminum for a commercial aircraft seat frame manufacturer. They shipped us four 5 x 8 x 1.25 sheets of aluminum. I worked...
Along these lines, I'll re-emphasize that if you do cut both wood and aluminum on the same machine, do not use dust collection with the aluminum. The hot chips can (and have) start a fire.
I don't think you could go wrong with either one, but focusing on ballscrew vs rack and pinion is, IMO focusing on the wrong thing. Both machines will cut aluminum with ease and with excellent...
Might be a long shot, but The Alabama Woodworker is in Huntsville and has a CNC router. https://www.youtube.com/@AlabamaWoodworker
One thing that solidified my decision to order my 8'6" capacity slider was laying it out in CAD (39 iterations) along with all my other equipment. Had I not done that, I would have ordered a shorter...
I appreciate the apology.
"You can listen all you want but if you did your homework it's irrelevant."
After 30 years in the industrial CNC business, selling, installing, training and supporting CNC routers, and 7 years...
"Ignore the YouTubers that say "listen" because that's hogwash and you should be wearing ear protection anyway. :)"
I agree with Michael's advice with this one exception. You can and should listen...
Thanks very much for taking the time to share your insights, Erik. Very informative.
Agreed, Erik - here's a link to the stuff. Works better than anything else I've used.

Agreed. Another solution i've seen is to put a secondary vacuum holding tank in line with appropriate valves to quickly clear the bag before switching to the pump.
I've heard nothing but good about Joe Woodworkers, but I have no first-hand experience with them. I have a Compact 150 with a 4 x 4 bag. If I were buying again, I'd get the 300. The 150 takes a...
Very nice work from both of you! I always enjoy reading your posts, Derek.
Agreed. I added the Origin a couple of weeks ago for exactly those two reasons. I have a CNC router in my shop, but added the Origin for doing (mainly) end grain joinery and situations where a piece...
I've learned to just chuckle when I see comments about "just push a button" when applied to CNC technology.
I started woodworking in 1962. I've done it as a hobby ever since, and at times,...
My favorite would be a tossup between my 20" Inca bandsaw and my CNC router. Both encourage me to step away from rectilinear projects and into the challenges that curves bring.
The tool looks like an Elu biscuit joiner. My guess they're for aligning the countertop to the face of the drawer fronts.
I've glued straight off of the drum sander with 120 grit for years and never had a failure, including multi-layer bent laminations. I find it's best practice to blow off or vacuum the surface well to...
Thanks Michael. I've done that. It's a problem with the up and down portions of the flutes not overlapping the way they should. I've brought it to the attention of the Whiteside folks. I have not had...
Not trying to hijack this, but curious if anyone else is running into this. The last 3 Whiteside ¼" compressions I've ordered for class have left a small ridge right where it transitions from up to...
Yep, sounds like you were using an upcut spiral. If you hold the bit with the shank up, is the cutting edge sharp on the bottom side or the top. Downcut bits should be sharp only on the bottom edge.
Hi Josh,
I agree with Aaron's comments with one small correction. The SC4e does not come standard with a scoring motor. It comes standard with a belt driven scoring unit, including the blade.
I've...
