I burn friction lines on the outside of a lot of bowls that I make. Seems to be a demand for that. I use a coat hanger wire.
I think the key to sander life is cleaning it. At every time I change the grit I blow out the sander. This only takes about 10 or 15 seconds.
Get a used leaf spring. They are 1095. Bear in mind if you heat it up making your tool you will be annealing it.
I also get my CA from Vince's Wood Wonders. A great guy to word with.
Great video !! What did you raise the bur with ( at about 12 min.)? Carbide ? Diameter ? Carbide grade ? Best place to but it ? Keep up the videos I learn an awful lot from them. Thanks a lot.
I am glad to see your post. That is how I do it but didn't know if that was the best way. Thank you.
Glad to see that you are doing well, Reed, keep it up.
Welcome to the Creek, Ted. Keep in mind this is very addictive. We have a great club here and meet once a month. We have a lot of members from your area. Good Luck and happy turning.
+1 on the Kitchen-Aid. I did my homework and it was the most highly recommended. I am very pleased, would do it again, but I am positive that I won't have to.
We went there mainly to go to Fisherman's Wharf. Big disappointment, some of the "restaurants" are push carts. The whole area is only a block or two. with a total of about 30 vendors. There are no...
The penetrating fluid that works great for me is "Thrust" made by Castle. Hard to find might have to call the factory and see who is the distributor in your area. Thrust has never let me down in all...
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help. I will pass this on to the doubting Thomas's that are inquiring about it and are not believers.
Thanks again.
I think that in the past two (2) weeks I saw a post by Leo Van Der Loo about an 1993 study about how safe the wood cutting boards are, no matter how old they are. I have passed that info on and am...
If you are going to use a torch, hang the part horizontally and heat to a dull red then quench in oil. Later to temper or draw back so that it is not brittle use a torch and just heat it up not to...
Another method that works is 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper then clear lacquer. Good luck.
Welcome aboard, Get ready for the ride, I am sure you will love it.
I saw this thread to late to help, but they sure did a great job of covering it. There are several more but the major ones were mentioned.

Les,
Welcome to the creek, I am sure that you will enjoy.

There are the original Chestnut logs on the Blue Ridge Parkway about 20 miles north of Asheville, NC, I have not seen them but a friend said he will take me there they are about 36" dia. and not...
I also have a couple of VM120 chucks. I have turned over 20" dia. bowls using a just over 2 5/8" dia. by 1/4" deep recess with no problems at all.
Good luck,
Dave
I have a lot of slate floors in my home. I sealed the slate before I grouted it. After I was done with the grout I painted the grout lines with another coat, then after that was dry I coated the...
Rob,
Next Sat is our monthly meeting of the Carolina Mountain Wood Turners at The Folk Art Center. I am sure that we have a lot of members from your area. We usually have over a hundred in...
I do the same as Stephen Walker does. Works great, no loss of wood as you would get with a tenon. Some people do not like the recess ??? Try it, it might just be the answer for you.
Good Luck.

I have been using the stretch wrap per Robo Hippy's suggestion for quite a while. Late last summer I was wrapping then bagging in 1 bag and was getting mold and mildew on the majority. Since fall I...
