Be proud!!!
I have a high angle LN that can have the blade reversed and super sharpened with a slightly higher bevel angle. But that's more work than needs to be done.
I recommend you spend some time learning...
Suggestions:
Adjust the blade to where it just touches the wood through the mouth. Then with a very lite wood hammer ( make this hammer your self ) give the
blade end a lite tap. Check for...
Very well done!! Thanks!
Hands down the Narex chisels are the best bargain and quality I've ever bought.
Recommended.
Happy chips mon!
That's a great job getting the grain match just perfect. Qualifies as BEAUTIFUL!!! Hoot!
Just before you put glue to the joint, I recommend doing the twist test. That is placing the two to be glued edge surfaces together and twist them latterly
while holding a flash light on the back...
Nice tools !
It's very satisfying to make and use you own tools. One learns more from making them than buying them IMO.
Enjoy them and take pride in your productivity. It's a good thing.

With me normally no but I do wear working glasses most of the time due to tired old eyes.
Also with Purple heart, hickory or african mahogany. They have a lot of twisted grain so I wear glasses...
I use a card scraper set to a fine shaving. Then use a certified straight edge with a flash light to test flatness. Rarely need twist sticks.
I have a Japanese sole scraper plane if there is a...

Hello to all Canadian wood workers !
I too have a set of Narex Paring Chisels that I bought a few years ago. They have served me well and
my dove tails are the better for it. I wish you luck...
I've had some success with pine by using golden oak stain. 3 coats or so.
Then I put on some lacquer.
It's a warm grain beauty that's welcome in most decor ( IMO ).
Give it a sample try. ...
How wide will the shelf be? An important consideration as you may need some central
shelf support(s).
Be sure to soften the edges of the front of the shelf(s) and the ends too.
Consider a...
I use a very fine gent's rip saw to cut the tails and sockets. Makes for easy control and accurate cuts.
I also use a special 17 degree bevel 3/8 ths chisel that was recommended by one of the...
I built two African Mahogany end tables with top drawer and lower leg wide solid shelf.
The material did not twist or misform. I did let it sit quite a while...some where around 6 ~ 7 weeks befor...
Good Job!
I like the mix of different hardwoods.
Try to buy such a well made table and it's probably not doable in today's furniture market.
Last over a 100 years and really handy the whole...
I've a ebony smoother and it developed a tiny crack near the wedge edge area on the right side.
The maker recommended using CA glue and light clamping force for an over night fix.
It's been 4 ~5...
I have a custom made #6 wooden Steve Knight plane. I use it all the time. Cocobolo body and a really great blade which I think is O1.
Super easy on the push and with a little wax, almost air lite....
Hello !
I think Mr. Lansing is right on the money....but I would also apply some Johnson's paste wax on the entire
saw surface after the glue clean up. That will protect the surface better the...

My LN low angle jack is more flexible to use. My 5's are more work horses. The 5 with the Hock blade is
a match in use to the LN.
That said, they both do a great job. Both can take...
Hello!
I have several wooden planes and a few transitionals. I've found the wooden planes to be a real
pleasure to use. The ones made by Steve Knight are exceptionally fun to use and very easy...
I would also add that you need the blade warmed up, not hot, but warmed up so that the steel
won't snap while you tweak it in the vice.
Don't ask me how I know....ouch!
Enjoy the shavings!
