I you look at Fig 3. They show a 1/4" ref between the bottom of the drawer and the cabinet opening.
From the bottom of the drawer to the rail center line is 1-27/32". This may be the issue.
Go to mcmaster and search sleeve bearing. You can get bronze bearings for a 3/8" shaft 1/2" OD in various lengths. Should be about $1 each.
You are correct. Your dado will be enlarged by the amount you are off center. If you are really careful in your setup it should effect the joint fit much.

If you've got a pair of vice-grips that will grab the chuck you could try that. Clamp them on as tight as you can and wack the vice-grips with a piece of wood.
