I have the SG; it cuts fast, runs cool and holds up well.
I also had the Norton 3X "I", didn't like it and returned it. It was too soft for HSS turning tools; it didn't hold up. The wheel...
[QUOTE=Bill Bulloch;1555335] 50 Craftmen Lathes for sale ... but a 2HP, 15" swing lathe is a nice lathe to start out with. [QUOTE]
Be careful. Ask Bernie. You don't want the model private...
Don't rush into buying the chuck yet. It is a convenience item. Even you have several chucks and jaws, you still need to use the alternate methods, such as glue blocks, jam chucks. Learn to use...
Don't overlook the major advantage of the 1220VS (not the 1014 VS) is its minimum rpm of 200 instead of 500 on the manual speed model. The slower rpm would allow you to safely turn slightly...
With fastfood value meal already at $5, $100 per day with lunch provided is a bargain.
But I think that has to do with location, location & location. There are 3 main competitors:
Commercial...
We are turning wood here. They don't have uniform density. Moisture distrubution would affect the balance of the blank. The best tachometer is your gut feeling. If the lathe shakes, or you feel...
From this chart in Tormek manual:

It has the same principle as Varigrind. The JS setting is equivalent to the leg angle setting,...
In addition to that, we baby our hand plane blades. We pride taking paper thin shavings off hand plane. We never use our good plane blade on timber with bark or dirt.
Turners are different...
According to this tool steel selection chart:

+1 on what Dale said.
Have "seen" it twice at Woodcraft open turn night- a loud bang, big chunks of the wheel missing. It happened so fast, not even the guy knew what happened. Jamming the blunt...
This is not a chuck for wood turning. The 3 contact area are too small to hold the blank securely; the concentrated force would crush the wood. This kind of jaws can be a knuckle buster.
Look for...

(Pages 4 & 5) explains what you want to know. If your system is not leaking (poor seal, thin wall, porous wood), probably you...
BTW, if you over-tighten, the tail stock live center also gets hot.
Crank it tight, then back off very slightly. The amount is so small, it is mostly by feel. It will get loose during turning. Stop, check and tighten if you need to.
That is very common.
Switch to Satellite radio, try plugging in the radio from different electrical outlet or install something similar to this.

Is the headstock also getting warm without load? Cranking the tail stock too tight can cause the bearings to heat up.
That is what the swiveling headstock is for. If you don't need the tail stock, just swivel the headstock a little, no more bending forward in hollowing.
This alignment tool would bring back the...
He claimed to be 14, from UK. Quote from his YouTube Profile:
"I do not believe that you need to have any formal training to learn woodwork, afterall I havn't."
I am glad he doesn't have the...
Moving the tool rest while the lathe was on was the tame part. IMO, it is crazy to stick the fingers inside the vase to sand as he started at 7:10...
No problem with Lightning Publications. They arrived nicely in plastic bags.
It used to be fifty something dollars a year. I know a guy put his past Woodturning magazines at the auction site. ...
The belt tension may be too tight. According to the Jet service, that was also the main reason for pre-mature bearings failure. Don't put too much force pushing down on the motor bracket to tension...
From your post, it gives me the impression that upgrading your lathe may be in your future.
If that's the case, I would suggest you consider a chuck that is not direct threaded (such as G3 or SN2). ...
The T-124 has 16.5" swing. At 570 rpm, the peripheral speed is 27.99 Miles per Hour. It is still too fast even for a rounded & balanced bowl of that size.
Looking at the picture, the headstock...
No tool can make a better turner. You are going to hold the tool free hand. With a fingernail grind bowl gouge, using various parts of the edge, push or pull cuts, scraping or shear scraping;...
