Always fun to do this kind of stuff.... One of my clients wanted a matching set....

This one was a fun one to build... The dimensions made it a bit of a challenge (19.5" x 15.5" x 14") as my planer is only a 12.5" DW....

She's all taped up and getting her lacquer finish at the moment.... but, when she's done, I'll be sure to put some more pics up....
That is just a screw adjustment. Only screwed half of them in... anticipating that issue. Will probably put a dab of epoxy to ensure alinement... then screw...
With all the boxes I've made... I have always shyed away from quadrant hinges.... The only thing I could find on the internet about them were all the horror stories....cuz they have to be lined...
I had a lot of fun with this one.... A lot of "modifications" during the work in progress, as my client kept asking... "can you do this, can you do that".....

I do build these professionally.... I wouldn't mind sharing a plan.... but, I don't use 'em.... Just sort of wing it with each one.
Thank You.... the hing is pinned with 1/8" brass rod. Very simple, yet effective. Prior to beveling, I have a couple of plywood spacers inside the box to hold the lid in position, then clamp it...

The Kauri worked pretty much like any other wood.... except the stress factor was up there a little bit.... it seemed to work a lot like cherry...but I didn't see any of the inherent burn marks left...
I just finished this one up today.... she'll be going to a customer in the Phillipines....
The primary wood is teak and the contrasting wood and lid would be the Ancient Kauri.... Ancient Kauri is...
It'll be a humidor..... I'll be matching it up with Teak.... per the clients request...
I have a client that wanted something made from Kauri.... which is certified as ancient wood, at least 50,000 years old. It is said to be the oldest workable timber on earth.....
