Congrats on a very good deal. It looks like it took a lot of work to get it into your basement but I'll bet you'll find it all worth while when you get to use it on your next major project.

I really like that tool holder idea. If you don't mind me stealing it that will be my project next weekend.
Great looking lathe Dale. I'm sure you're going to really like it.
I use it for sanding and occasionally to get better access to the interior of a small bowl when it is difficult to get at what I need from the normal angle. I do have a Oneway face plate and use the...
I bought my 3520A when they were being discontinued as the B model was being introduced. You won't believe how much more enjoyable and productive your time turning will become. The rate at which I...
Terrific job Jeff. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at the first style myself. I'll be happy if it turns out anywhere near as well as yours did.
Like many of the folks above, I use T-9 with a paste wax cover. It lasts for about 9 months in my Florida garage. I use the T-9 on my hand tools as well.
Great job and kudos for your innovative use of your Disston saw. Maybe they should add your use to their brochure! ;)
Way kool Keith. Segmented turnings are definitely something I want to try in the very near future.
Jim, don't you envy those guys who have basements? I really miss mine but you can't hardly find one in Florida and if you do it is likely to be very wet.
Another vote for the standard kerf blade. The only real reason for the thinner kerf is that they will take a little less power due to the narrower cross section. However, your saw should have...
I built my SCMS work station so that the wings are level with the SCMS table. Too make this happen, I mounted the SCMS on a piece of 3/4" plywood that is grooved on the bottom to fit the work...
One other thing to consider is the feed rate through the saw. A slightly faster feed rate will reduce burning but you don't want to over do it either.
Overall, I would verify the fence alignment...
Andy,
I did something very similar for my drill press table. About the only signficant difference is that I used a double track on top of the fence to allow a tape measure in addition to the...
We're glad your back Rob and congratulations on all the free time you will now have (unless of course the LOYL finds out you have any of it.) Judging from your avatar, you may want to make a hair...
Glad to have you with us Butch. As you said, you just can't beat this place for woodworking related information. The camaraderie is great too! :)
Obviously and oldie but goodie. Looks like a great addition to me.:)
Hubba, hubba!! Great job Rick. I love Cherry and you've certainly put it to good use.
I use Micromesh up to 12000 with a little water. Just make sure to cover your lathe ways when you do so and dry it off after.
I had a Harbor Freight 34706 that is a clone of the Jet and much less expensive at $180 and identical for all intents and purposes. I used it for two years before upgrading. You may want to...
I'd buy that Challenger in a New York second!
Yep, what Fred says goes for me too.
Dang! I just bought that set for my son for Christmas from Amazon. :(
A Miami fan in Gator country!?
And he calls himself a man of the cloth?
Seriously, it looks like three guys had a good time Jerry.
Jim,
Probably but it would likely take longer for the Simple Green to age properly. ;)
