Hello all,
I'm in need of a desk plan or at least a strong inspiration for one to build for my loft.
The loft is finished with built-in red oak cabinets and bookshelves that I made a few years...
OK, I think I have this stuff figured out on the maple but its the open pores on the bubinga that are giving me fits...though I have a plan of attack.
I intend to build up the shellac via...
Thanks for all the advice. I'll have another go and report back.
I did lube the pad with mineral oil by putting a drop on it and rubbing it around. Was afraid to use too much.
I'm attempting to finish a bubinga/maple desk with shellac over the already applied oil.
On my test pieces I am having an impossible time finding a happy medium between applying the...
Scott,
thanks for the help. I actually got more bleed through on the first coat when I didn't thin. I suppose the little spots of oil will go away on their own with a little more time, correct? ...
Some more detail....
Sanded to 320, wiped clean with spirits, applied first coat ad a soak, second with 400 grit wet/dry
I'm two coats into a finish on a bubinga and curly maple desk. The finish
is Watco Danish oil.
First coat went on with a half hour soak (kept it wet, didn't let it get tacky) Second coat was...
I moved the side table out 18", clearly this will provide more room
for the user but while it improved the working space I'm not sure it improved the overall proportions. I'm attaching for...
Jamie,
I tried what you suggested but when I right click and select entity info I don't get a option titled texture. In the floating menu for the fill tool I see a checkerboard that I thought might...
Great work Mike!
I played around with Intarsia a couple years back (nothing like what you've done). The most frustrating part for me was finding "just the right piece" for for the components. ...
I modeled this after a desk found in the readers gallery of Fine Woodworking a couple years back...turned it into a corner desk.
I think I am happy with it...though I haven't fully figured out the...
I modeled the desk in Sketchup....still not 100% on the attachment
method, as I mentioned I need it to be removable.
I think I'll post these in the design forum as well...get some criticism and...
Tony,
I think a modified version of that just might do the trick...The legs and stretchers of my table will meet the top after curving but I think I can make this work and still get a screwdriver...
John and Joel,
I'd be afraid of the top wobbling if I didn't have some kind of fastened connection. Also, I failed to mention that as I am making this a corner desk one of the corners won't gave...
I've decided to use a desk featured in a reader's gallery of Finewoodworking magazine a couple years ago as an inspiration.
One of the key features of the desk I want to incorporate is the joinery...
Guys, thanks for all the great ideas. I looked into the liquid
sandpaper option and found a product (liquid deglosser) that worked like
a champ. All the help was appreciated!!
Hello fellow woodworkers...hoping someone can help me with this...
A couple years ago I made a bed and finishing it with gloss polyurethane. I just recently completed the rest of the bedroom set...
Bingo! That is it exactly. Thanks a million Gene, because of you I will be making a trip to harborfreight tomorrow.
Hi all,
Frequent reader, infrequent poster here.
I have a 4Runner SUV, plenty big enough for daily use but a little lacking for hauling sheet goods, even with the rear open and the seats down...
Thanks for all the responses, fortunately I kept the original box and packaging which will make shipping more secure and less eventful.
Since I am shipping a mini18 by epilog the job will be easier,...
Has anyone ever shipped a laser from a residence to a residence? If so, what means did you use? What packing material?
Has anyone without connections to the laser engraver industry ever sold one of these? I'm considering selling mine (2005/6 epilog mini 18) that I bought new from epilog last year but I don't know...
I know a few people in the real world (instead of online) that dislike the sawstop because the founder initially tried to force other OEMs to include the technology and they don't care for having...
Thanks for the tips. I guess there really isn't an easy way.
