Why not both? The Zona was like $15 last time I checked. You can get a dozukii from Tashiro Hardware for about $50 shipped. Order the queen dovetail blade & handle.
A forum member turned me on...
I can't speak to the infills, but my 2" Krenov iron only gives up about 1/2" of usable edge to a Bailey #7. I doubt that I will use up either in my lifetime. I also haven't handled any of the new...
Thanks Jim.
It may handle up to 17/64s, I'll have to try one. After having the chuck cone pop off twice, I'm reluctant to open it up much as the jaw bearing falls right out (and once, the jaws). ...
I didn't have to hunt too hard, the sales was about 200 yds down the road:-) LOML called and told me to get down there, fast.
Dang, the title of this thread gave me visions of girls in bikinis planing on a beach, not "beech"!
What size/style bits do these things take? I picked one up at a garage sale yesterday and it seems if I open the jaws up more than 1/8", the chuck comes off.
Thanks.
Wow!
Thanks Christian, I just ordered one.
It should be pretty useful in my DeWalt MBC rehab as well.
Interesting trivia: The block plane was made on contract to the Federal Govt., so I...
The drill is Millers Falls, the brace is a Stanley.
The bits do have a little rust, but should clean up OK. They're all Irwin.
Yep, when the primary mode of transportation was horses over dirt roads, everyone in town was breathing manure/urine-laden dust. That's not to say the cabinet makers didn't get an extra dose.

This is a represents a real find here in North Texas, which is kind of old hand-tool hell.
$7 total.

As Bob Rosendahl said "you need a new router for every new bit"
Ditto. Use the jet for curves n joinery and the laguna for the heavy, straight line work
Bingo! That's why I can't bring myself to buy a bottle of Brasso. Other than saw nuts, I don't know what I'd ever use it on again.
Yes, I love home-brew cleaners, and I bet cleaning products...
Too lazy and cheap to run to the store for Brasso, I googled and found this receipe. All the better since Heloise is a North Texas gal:

Don't worry, all members and digits are attached. But I took a bad fall with my left arm extended, broke a bone in the shoulder socket and tore up some cartiledge (thank goodness not the right). A...
Where do you get sandpaper sheets/rolls long enough to lap the sole of a jack? I checked klingspor, but don't want to pay $80 for a roll I'll never use up..
I could be wrong, but I don't think the PowerKraft line was the highest of quality. I have have one of their Master jack planes that belonged to my grandfather. It's equivalent to the handyman...
OK, dumb question: who is St. Roy? Never heard of him.
Now that is WAY over-gloating when you post a spreadsheet. YOU SUCK!
I'm like Cary, no time to surf and can't pounce quick enuff when something turns up.
My only purchase was a good one, IMHO: NIB Rockler Jessem Mit'r Excell, $100.
Ditto that. Heck, I'd of bought it from you for more than enough to buy a rip.
Maybe it's just me, but I almost never see a vintage xcut less than 10 ppi.
My 8ppi D8 is my most-used western...
John,
The two should be mutually exclusive. Dodos should never cut dadoes:-)
I still fire up the tailed router for them.
I'm 5'10" with stubby arms and a to-be-replaced 36" bench. The only issue I've had is chopping straight mortises, I finally realized the bench height was causing me to approache from the side...
Are you trying to edge or face the boards?
Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's some pretty rank wood to learn hand-planing with.
