I'd love to burn some stuff!
Two words -Holtzapffel lathe.
Cheating implies that there is a passable result without working so hard. I suppose the electric motor is cheating too and maybe the lathe itself as you could carve the whole thing by hand. I produce...
Where did all the sawdust go?
One word - vacuum. I have veneered all sorts of things with my vacuum bag. curved head boards to tabletops. The whole piano does not need to go into a bag. I have seen boats done with "half bags" or...
Many years ago I kicked myself for not getting the first 5 copies of FWW. I got them religiously since till about 1990 when I saw the same stuff over and over again. I hardly look at them anymore. I...
This is why I have 4 of everything - one for layer 1, one for layer 2, etc. Actually I think I have reached critical mess. Look for me in layer 3.
At what point does wood movement become a problem? The time when a 2x10 x 10' piece of cherry came down on my head-that was a problem of wood movement. Actually I expect the worst in most situations...
I remember my first lathe tool made from a 16 penny nail, ground to a point. I must have been 13 or so and never heard of hardened steel much less HSS. But that got me hooked. I use drill rod (W1 ?)...
I'll agree there are not enough spindle turnings here, so I'll show some of what I've done in the past couple of weeks. These are alder columns for a customer/furniture maker that I do lots of work...
Some pen turner probably got it ----
Don't like the replays? Don't televise the games, -only live games allowed. Get out of the house and support the teams in person.
We have had Yahoo email addresses for years - no problems here, why the volume of spam from Yahoo for you? My problem is AOL - I will never answer them - It's a virus in itself.
Line water pressure is usually lots less than air pressure from the compressor so I would think leaks would be less frequent. You could get a line regulator too and get the pressure down to 10 lbs....
How about wireless earphones? Crank 'em as loud as you can stand and no one will even know. Space saving and you can be anywhere in the area and still get good sound. Yeah, dumb idea, but sometimes...
Get a bunch of 5/8" dowels and cut them in half and glue them to a piece of 1/4" ply. Or, do you know anybody with a Belsaw type planer? I'd do it on the tablesaw with a moulding head.
"+1 on that (except I use a TS)." Not if it is twisted.
This is a high vacuum pump not high volume pump. It's used in labs where critical vacuum is needed usually in conjunction with a diffusion pump to get the last few molecules of air out. They are oil...
I'm just up the road from you and I'll do it if you can find some spruce. I have some Port Orford cedar and a small piece of Engleman spruce.
Looks great, and nice curves. I'd be worried about glue failure since it looks like that's what happened originally. What type of glue are you using?
Don't know if it is available, but I would treat after I turned it. Dust and chips go everywhere and with poison in it, you don't want to get this stuff airborne. You also said you need a nice post....
For a real blank stare in the office, ask about composting toilets.
Use a compass or trammel. How did you get your original arc? Use the same center point.
Your brain is getting in the way of success. You ask for information and then throw it away. You want a table to work on, not a table to 'work' on. I have a 10 dollar solid core cherry veneer door...
It doesn't want anything to do with that stuff.
