Hello all, well I picked up a Fulton Combination Plane at a MWTC meeting for a great price ( picks to follow shortly) but now i'm starting to think I have a problem. For one thing it's near...
Just yesterday while in a SC antique mall I came upon one similar to this one but not in as nice of condition. It measured 47" long and was labeled as box plane. I'm trying to decide if I should buy...
I picked up one just like that about a month ago, dosen't have any markings on it though, it seems like it'll get the job done till I can get a Disston.
wrong pics but here are the others. I was too over whelmed to take any pics of the Stanley #45s and others that were in nice condition. I really wasn't ready to see that many good tools in one place,...
Here are the pics I took sorry but all I had was my phone and they are a little blurry but the bench with all the tools on it is a Stanley 870.
I have a few more about another workbench that was...
OK two weeks ago as I was hunting our favorite quarry(rusty tools) I cam upon my first Stanley #45. It was complete with one cutter and had the floral pattern on it, asking price $139, I passed. Then...
George, it has always puzzled me as to how the trunnions would be made I knew that some of the guns were cast and not turned but in Rome,GA there is a Cannon lathe (or most of one) from the Civil War...
George What haven't you made?
George I don't think anything I say can convey my thoughts I'm not that eloquent except on those rare occasions when I am at the top of my game. Your knowledge base and use of materials is beyond...
Now that's cool. I thought someone had asked about where to start for making a cannon themselves that's what the swivel gun was for.
Your right they do look a lot better mounted to a carriage....
That's really cool George you are a man of many talents. I'm a Civil War re-enactor and I'm around the field artillery a lot, the cannons you buy today come in full size and every size up to it. I'd...
As always Beautiful work George. That's sad about the tool collector though so many unique tools can find their way into private collections and it's be nice to see more museums for this kind of...
If I had 2 saws like that in my shop I don't think I'd get any work done, I'd spend all my time trying to decide which one I wanted to use. I'll be the first to say that I know very little about the...
I love the tote, it's so fluid and graceful. You do some very skilled work. It really shows you what craftsmen can make. I'm glad to see things like this popping back up today.
George that looks magical. Are you sure you don't have some gnomes working for you?
OMG that is insane Jameel! That's some really cool inlay! Jim if you ever find one of those round tuits I need one or half of one myself.
The phrase "I've got to get me one of these!" comes to mind. So what are you going to do with the old ones? :D
I hope you update this thread offten, I plan to follow this closely.
I had no idea what was all it took to make a burnisher. I could have made dozens of them in automotive class back in '03. They had ( and I'll bet still do) bins of valve stem rods that they had...
I think we should turn this in for a television commercial for LN planes. I'll go ahead and be the first Volunteer to be the Professional Hand tool User on a well secured Maple board. Zing . At...
They look good, I haven't tried my hand at them yet but I hope to soon after I get my saws sharp and some halfway decent chisels. I know the trick for figuring out the angle and one trick with a...
I got mine from a somewhat local winery. $15 for the #1 jar and that was all they had for sell that day. They used to stock way more stuff for home brewing and wine making but not so much now though...
I just put 2 planes down in a Citric Acid bath. I meant to snag some of this stuff to try it, looks like I'll have to now. Citric Acid was hard for me to find and this jar was only 1#.
I was just going to ask the question in the OP earlier today when I was called away. I have trouble finding good wood locally too. But I suspect it's more to do with my budget than the local supply....
