Did the spindle lock engage the back of the reeves pulley ? If so does the key way on the spindle extend far enough toward the back that it is across from spindle lock ?
Swing over 20” bed extension in low position

If you follow the link to "Buy Online" they show Nevins Tools . COM as a dealer with it. Nevins price is $2499.99 for the lathe , $89.99 for the safety guard, $289.99 for the swing away, and $269.99...
Grab it if you can of course , such a silly question from a turner. Watch for cracks and ring/wind shake. If the tree grew sprawled out all over the place expect to find changes in density in the...
I would think you are going to find that 1hp is not enough if you turn past 12" and especially when you get to the max your lathe is now. , 2hp would definitely be a nice upgrade. You would end up...
Robert is right that WD40 does not prevent rust but it works well with a scotchbrite type pad for cleaning up surface rust. Sometimes I apply paste wax afterwards but I don't sweat it. Unless your...
WD40 and a scrubby pad
+1 but make it a pickup bed full
What about wrapping it in kraft paper ? It would the same as wrapping it in a brown paper bag sans any printing and is easily found where you get packing/shipping materials including Walmart.
+1 to what Daryl said, even with spindles you do run into stubborn grain that sands better in reverse. Are you installing a VFD and 3 phase motor on it ?
Another source for pure talc would be tire talc . You can find it for bicycles but it's not cheap that way. Both NAPA and O'Reilly auto parts have it on their websites , don't know if they carry it...
Happy to hear it was something simply and quick. Check things like that regularly , it happens on more expensive lathes too.
I would have someone check the motor out or see if anyone you know has a similar motor you could borrow to try on it. If the pulley on the headstock spins freely by hand , the belt is not slipping...

In case you don't already have it , you can download a pdf copy of the owner's manual for that lathe . http://www.vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=7056
Ok , just used to DC motors being called/listed as DC and not as just Induction which lead me to believe they aren't DC but AC.
Why is everyone saying the Laguna Revo's have DC motors when their website lists the 18",20" and 24 " as having TEFC Induction motors with Delta VFD's?
+1 for Accurate Bearing , excellent service and excellent products . Excellent prices on Nachi and NTN bearings , just say you don't want any Chinese made bearings and they will deliver.
Bill is absolutely correct , keep in mind that depending on what size work you will be doing each set of jaws has a different grip range. I have a Stronghold (great chuck) and an older lathe with a...
Cherry , maple, apple , black walnut , and birch are all usable .
Small thin awl , dental pick, compressed air , patience and time works just fine. Why fill the holes back in when it's all part of the natural design ?
:p As expensive as your bank account will allow
