I was at our local woodshow last weekend and got to use Rob's new dovetail saw. It is his own design and is not yet in production. The saw cuts beautifully. Its got a 22 point cut for the first...
Count me in.
I just wanted to follow up on this thread with the results one month later.
I went away for 3 weeks and left the bowed boards clamped flat and stickered. They are all now flat :D
Geoff.
Thanks for the responses. I've stickered them and clamped them flat. I'll leave them that way for the rest of August and see what happens.
They will ultimately be milled to 3/8 inch so I think...
I've resawn a 4/4 hard maple board with the intention of using it for the back of a bookshelf (ship lapped). The piece is 7 feet long. I need close to that length. Of course the pieces have bowed in...
I also got a credit for around $100 from Laguna last week for my 14L. Laguna's retail price includes shipping to Canada, I doubt I would have bought the saw if I had to cover the shipping/brokerage...
My kids have a music class that is across the street from the Lee Valley store. Every saturday while they are in class I'm across the street trying not to spend too much
There was an interesting post by Chris Schwarz on the woodworking magazine blog titled "Tapered Sawblades: That's Not a Defect, it's a Feature" about how this helps not overshoot the back of a cut. ...
I've edited my first post to clarify that my 100A service is for the whole house not just the shop (don't I wish!). Also Grizzly saws are not availble in Canada :(, at least not easily.
Thanks...
Hi,
I've decided it's time to buy a Bandsaw.
This is a hobby, my interests are in furniture making so I envision using the saw for joinery, cutting curved parts such as legs and resawing for...
It's Raining here in Vancouver, B.C. today, but I've got my Christmas projects to keep me busy :) The pics will come later.
I had significant tearout using a lock miter bit on baltic birch a while back. I tried scoring the cut and that helped somewhat. What finally eliminated the tearout was putting a zero clearance...
I just bought a lock mitre bit for my router table last week. The setup didn't take too long using the instructions provided (available on lee valley website). The woodshop demo website has a neat...
Take a look at http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=24617
or search for "Draw Leaf Table".
The only time I ever had that problem with mine was before I connected the ductwork. Since then it's run fine.
Hi, I was over at my mums the other day and she has been refinishing a table that has a Mahogany Veneer. She is not happy with the results she got so far. What has been done was: it was stripped...
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I bought the Beall threader and have found it to work well for making threaded things out of wood.
You can check out...
Instead of squaring the mortise why not round the tenon?
Geoff.
The Beall threader works great once it's setup. I would recommend getting the book "The Nuts and Bolts of Woodworking" from Beall, it's got lots of hints and small projects you can make with...
I was in the middle of sharpening a set of blades when I realised I didn't have a clue if the technique worked for blades for bevel up planes. I reread the article I had on it and it just didn't...
I have a question about sharpening a bevel up plane blade and David Charlesworth's "ruler trick" method of putting a back bevel on plane blades.
I've started using the ruler trick on by bench...
I picked my 2HP gorilla up at a UPS depot, the boxes filled my Honda CRV and about half of my brothers Nissan Pathfinder. I had one extra box with some flex hose in it. The main boxes were:
1. The...
I saw this fix on a friends shelving unit. One of the back rows of holes had been drilled slightly lower than the rest of them. The builder had placed a small screw in the shelf just above the pin...
I have a beard and I wear a mask type respirator. It does a good job of reducing the dust I breathe. The fit is such that if I cover the filters and breathe in the mask sucks up against my face;...
