Longer is better as long as you can keep the cut smooth and true.
However, all machines have some runout, and few setups are perfectly square, so a little nit won't matter in a 1 inch tenon, but...

I'll use a good blade to cut a few pieces of MDF, but I would never ever pass MDF over my jointer blades. Takes me way way longer than one minute to change jointer blades.:o
Hey Tim, Good picks - those are probably the best bang for the buck, but don't think you can stop mid-slope;).
Personally, I am retired and make furniture for a hobby. I'm in the shop five or six...
You can expect a wide range of answers on this board. The suggestion of looking at festoolownersgroup dot com is a good one - a little less venom over there...
Personally, I have several Festool...
There's an interesting article in the current issue of Popular Woodworking. Bob Flexner writes "Cherry Blotches - Get Over It". He points out that any finish, even shellac, will blotch somewhat.

I have an old Performax, too. Bought a brand name replacement belt and spent a long time fiddling with tracking, including reading some long threads on tuning. Never could get it to work right. ...
OK, sorry, but I'm about to get on the soapbox.
But first, a have a Wixey, use it all the time, and have confidence in it - as long as your movement stays in the same plane it was in when you zeroed...
You're absolutely right. On mortising, its truly each to his own. There are many many ways that work just fine.
I sold my powermatic mortiser after getting the Domino. When I need a larger...
In most situations, reconditioning involves more quality inspections than manufacturing. I've never been disappointed.
Can;t say the same for "scratch and dent" sales, though.
QS Cherry is pretty hard to find out here in the desert. Anyone know of an internet source that ships?
I have to eat some humble pie, actually found a good cheap tool. I'm usually in the "nothing more expensive than a cheap tool" camp. But I picked up a Lithium-ion driver from Skil - of all...
Always comes through for me. Bob has my business!
Interesting thread. I'm using metric more and more. I can do the fractional math, but the chances of error are much less with metric.
Probably the best quality is at Alpine Building Supply in Santa Fe. All the stock is open and you can take as long as you want to select your lumber. Prices are a little higher than in Albuquerque,...
Betcha lots of flatlander Texans made it up to the crest of the mountain this morning to see snow!!
Interesting thread. Here's my 2 cents....
Looking at the Festool line as a whole, the jewels are the plunge saw (TS55/75), the vac (CT-22, etc), the sanders, the guide rails and the MFT. And...
They probably made everything "unavailable" while they were raising prices.
I've been making walnut cutting boards for home use out of scrap for about 20 years and I'm still kicking.
If you actually use the cutting board and wash it with soap and water, any finish is...
Its a good idea to learn both ways. But I find myself using loose tenons more and more. When you make up the tenon stock, make a lot and keep some around for future projects - it really speeds...
Sounds like you got a good deal!
You can buy the tool online, just google performax accessories. Its less than $10 and is a godsend for those of us with big fingers.
It took me a couple of tries...
You can probably do just fine without one, especially if you can work the wood quickly and get it glued up and fastened down quickly or if you buy all the wood you need in one batch from a reliable...
Great thread!
Here's a couple more cents worth...
Definitely use your school shop to square up your stock. Jointers and planers are big, heavy, expensive, and take a lot of expert maintenance....
OK, here's my two cents worth...
From bitter experience, I can tell you - don't buy something cheap and plan to upgrade later - you waste $$ and live with crap for a long time.
Quality tools are...
One good thing about Festool for the undecided is the resale value. Its very hard to find used Festools for sale and when you do, they are selling at 90% or better of retail. Also, Festool has a 30...
When I try to figure out how many fasteners to use for a table top, I consider that the biggest stress it will probably ever have is when someone tries to lift the piece by the top.
