Yes Jack, they are difficult to see in the photo, but there are eight 3/8" holes spaced around the call.
Scott: I sent you an email re: suppliers. By the way, they sound GREAT.
Here is a double sided turkey call I'm making. It's a pot style made from walnut with textured glass surface on one side and a slate surface on the opposite side with a smaller glass "sound board"...
The bionic has saved my bacon twice, one time when a knot came out and once when a bowl blew apart. Both times the impact went straight to the face shield. I wear it all the time when at the lathe.
My 1.5 HP Jet 1642 handles 16" bowls and the McNaughton coring system. It may be slower than a 2 HP but how much. I guess if your in the production business you'ld want something bigger than even the...
+1 for the table saw.

I have a 1.5 HP JET 1642 and am really happy with it, however, I've been lusting for a PM Mustard Monster. My wife said if I pick up the PM the first thing I should turn would be a funeral urn.
Ditto on what Dan sez-Fiebing's leather dye has gotten good reviews for ebonizing, USMC black is the one you want.
If you want Black, it's the only way to go.
I just switch the breaker off since my lathe is right next to the breaker box. No worries about lightning.
The bearings I used were graphite impregnated bronze sleeve bearings with a flange. The bar stock is 1 1/2" so I used 3/4" length and installed a sleeve bearing top and bottom of each section. Got...
Scott: Here's a shot fully extended. The first photo was hiding the final section holding the round cutting bar and bit. The tool fits into the tailstock by threading onto a #2 MT "Ruth Niles" bottle...
Here is my version of a snake style hollowing system. The laser system is from my McNaughton coring tool. :D

Jim: I bought some 18 gauge nichrome on ebay. Under $20.00 is about a lifetime supply.
I agree about using the vacuum while doing HF's. Guess I'm going to Lowe's tonight. Thanks for sharing the infol
I have the 1 1/4" Thompson skew. It's GREAT. Well worth the $90.00 and does a fantastic job. Make your own handle and you're all set.;)
The skew can be a little intimidating early on, but once you get the hang of it, it will become one of your favorite tools while spindle turning.;)
You might want to consider the "Reverse Chucking Alignment Adapter" sold by Craft Supplies. P/N 280/1874 is for a 1 1/4"-8TPI for $28.99. It works great.
I thought that was clean!
