I've thought about this for some time. I'll build a shorter bench because I know that I will want to build a second bench in the long run.

I like the Roubo built by Christopher Schwarz in "The Return of Roubo" (August, 2010) in Popular Woodworking.
A few changes I would make:
-no through tennons or drawbore pins. I am going to make...
Hello Creekers!
I have been wanting to build a proper Roubo workbench for some time. I thought I'd make mine a left-handed variant with the leg vice on the right side. I might also put cabinets...
I agree!
The primary reason I purchased this book is because Ron goes into detail about different steels and heat treating.
After having a router in the wing of my tablesaw for the past 5 years, I decided to build a dedicated router table. The table saw wings are precious space and should be kept bare. If you are...
I wonder what grade of aluminum was used for that. Also, is it stamped or CNC? I can do both. I'm working out the details on acquiring a CNC mill. Maybe I'll start my own high-end woodworking...
Thank you for this great advice.
I'll expand on the two saws that I have:
I really don't know what they are, but one might be a Disston. Both saws are covered in rust and the metal has some...
Hello SMC-ers.
I have considered using my Woodcraft gift card from Christmas to buy a rip saw. I want to get a traditional western saw for rough an intermediate rip cutting. This will save me...
Thank You! I agree %100. I cannot get past his attitude.
Hmm. Funny I never paid attention to that. The plane is circa 1920.
Hello All!
About a month ago, I decided to use the machine shop at school to rehab a hand plane handed down to me through 4 generations.
The plane is a Sargent, but I am not sure which...
Hello All,
I am in a bit of a pickle in regards to my next waterstone purchase. I want to get a stone(s) with a grit in the 4000 to 8000 range to help sharpen chisels. I don't need them to...
Phenomenal work there!
That is the type of piece I can dream up in my head, but never figure out a way to actually build.
Good show!
Awesome!
I want to build something like that some day and I am inspired by your work. Those turned out beautiful!
What you really have there is a low-cost, lightweight, easy to adjust clamp that wont pinck the palm of your hand when you adjust it!
I like it!
That bottom rail and the chevrons really kick up that design a notch.
Who makes that kit? Constructo?
That last ship I built was the HMS Bounty.
I built a few ships, but thought the Victory was too much! WOW!
Bump!
I'm toying with the idea of buying a horizontal mortiser. Anyone ever deal with a g0540?
I did the inlay by hand.
I scored two parallel lines with a marking guage. I then defined the edges with a chisel. I used a set of Dockyard dog-leg chisels to scoop out the material in the...
A Domino might be a good idea, but I think one of those Felder things would suit me better.
Dispite my distaste for honey locust's working characteristics, I think I will use it again when I...
Thanks for the complements.
This design is an original. I was provided with a set of dimensions and the expectation that it had to be "tough" when completed. The rest was left to my...
Hello SMCreekers!
I built this hope chest for a friend last year. It is constructed out of honey locust with walnut inlays and has a cedar lining. The approximate dimensions are 20 inches tall,...
I found a mill near Eskanaba that had 8' lenghts of clear. There was the occasional knot or two about the size of a pencil eraser on 1/4 of the boards.
There are cedar trees EVERYWHERE up there....
Last week, I went up to the UP and bought 100bf of northern white cedar.
Time to build a boat!!!
