We just had our first daughter and a "changing table" was my first project for her, its pretty much a dresser with an open area for quick access to diapers. We were thinking crib at first but...
Looks like you're making great progress on yours and got your hands on some great beams for the top! Look forward to seeing it done.
The LN looks pretty interesting especially the set screws to control slop. I think one of the biggest benefits being mounted in the top itself vs below the top (Veritas) is that the force is more...
The chop is around 3.5" wide and 6.75" thick (with 3+" thick top), the recommended is 2" and around 6" (with 2" thick top). It's working pretty well now although there is some lift up and out when...
Looks great, love the color!
Thanks for looking guys!
I think the open front of the Veritas will come in handy but since the guides are only on one side vs the benchcrafted, there's some play/lift when tightening. Also...
Started 4 months ago and finally done (for now)!

Went with traditional joints for the leg and draw bored caps (since I didn't bother flattening/thicknessing the bottom of the slabs)....
Now for the toys.

Benchcrafted leg vise (still needs some sculpting) and a Veritas quick release tail vise. The quick release has Veritas prairie dogs since holes are stopped, dog holes...
Wouldn't call the glue up smooth, leg tenons were a little tight and really pushed the open time of the glue and over did it a little with the offset on the draw bores, but it's finally together.

Love the work on the curved carcass.
Thanks guys!
The end cap is from the same pile as the smaller back slab, reclaimed Philippine "mahogany" which was originally used to sticker train tracks for shipping. From my understanding...
Thanks! Finally made some more progress, hope to get most of the bench glued up this weekend. Was able to get the frame dry fit and draw bores drilled.

Ya, seems like the type of chip breaker David is talking about. Went to town at the ears and wasn't able to get any deflection. I am a good mm or 2 off from the pin, it looks like the pin might have...
Decided to try out some woodies and went with a used kanna. Knowing very little, found one with some nice flourishes on the blade and thought it must be of decent quality (hopefully) for someone to...
Love the gouged end grain, might have to give that a try.
Thanks! I undercut one of the angles to get a tighter fit at top.
Made some more progress, have the top mostly laminated, came out to 23.5" with a 2" gap.

Getting in on the action. Found a Hiroki funate gennou on the action site around the time of this thread so decided to to try a lighter, more traditional chisel hammer and fitting a custom handle.

Amazing attention to detail (and beautiful dado plane)!
Have the 2 tops mostly laminated and flattened.

There is still 4" to go on the maple top but it won't be full length to accommodate the tail vise. Been mostly hand tooling...
Ya, she seems more popular than the build. She was a 6 month old golden retriever in the photo, around 10 months now. Was concerned about vice opening width, the screw is around 14", 3.5" for a leg,...
Started woodworking almost 2 years ago without a clue (as seen by vise placement), an eye for power tools, and the nicest set of plastic handled chisels the big box stores could offer. My first...
Thanks Brian for the tip, recently purchased a Nakashima book detailing the peace alter, looked amazing!

Revisted the base by laminating a tapered support with a M&Ted Y support. It is quite rigid now with no springiness vertically, however there is still a little horizontal rotation which I can live...
Thanks for the ideas guys, based the design off some of his coffee table and desk designs as Stew posted, guess it doesn't translate too easily to a larger dining table. My wife has began calling it...
