I did mine as stand that my drill press sits on. The bits etc are in that. The base is also weighted with about 60lbs of sand to keep it very stable and not tip with the weight of a DP.
Google...
Alan, at some point you might want to just acknowledge you have outgrown a simple DP and have graduated to a mill... ;-)
Dan, well I hope your experience doesnt foreshadow what will happen with mine. I havent had mine for very long (~2 weeks), but Ive done some drilling with a 1/2 bit (the max for my chuck) and a...
Its the Ikea Jansjo (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10128734#). What is ironic is that the desk lamp is $10 and one of the variants with a clip is $30. Same light just with a...
The VFD is pretty cool. Like many things in my shop, buying a better & more expensive drill press is one of the things I regret not doing. But for now what I have is serving me well.
I never...
The chuck goes down to 1/32. Thats small enough for me...
Well the need to do a bunch of drilling motivated me to procrastinate and do the drill press updates Ive been meaning to do for a year or so.
I updated the following
Upgrade to Jacobs style...
Well Im in the process of adding some accessories to my drill press, namely the SteelCity laser, a new Jacobs style keyless chuck, a dp table Im building and my already completed stand.
I found a...
I just got mine and it took a little bit (no pun intended) to get used to it. I will say it is *very* important to watch the video.
I of course didnt think that I needed to watch it or read...
I have the Promax that attaches as a wing to your tablesaw, I love it. Im sure you will get a lot of use out of your find...
Thats a nice bench!! I wish I had done the legs on mine with 2x6's like yours. Oh well...
One thing to check is if the "Premium" 2x4s are still douglas fir. I know at the Lowes near me, the premium 2x4's are a different wood, hem-fir.
I still use them for stuff all the time, but I...
Put a second coat of paint on the workbench base. Trimmed up the 4 layer mdf top & mounted it to the base. Built some drawers for the drill press cabinet/stand. Purchased and cut the angle...
Im with Mark, this is the best way I know how to coil cables. Its *really* hard to explain in text. This video on youtube shows how its done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLwwB29uQRg
You can check out youtube for lots of great how to videos on things like this. Its become one the regular places I look for information on items (after Sawmillcreek of course...). I did a quick...
Ive never heard of this idea before, I love it, next time its what I am going to do...
I assume you tested it before you brought it down the stairs. :-) Otherwise Im sure I would have heard the screaming of 4 letter words all the way here in California...
Did some work on my bench project. Got the mdf layers for the top completed and I painted the base.
Sigh, Im such a terrible sprayer, I can do so many things in life very well, but darn it...
I looked at the Dewalt, and in fact looked very hard at the predecessor to the 110K as well (it was .5 lbs lighter). Ultimately I decided on weight, the 110K was 4.1lbs, the B&D was 2.7lbs and had...
Ive been trying to keep up with my New Years resolution of "Less glowing rectangles & more 3D activities" by spending more time in the shop.
After giving up on my cordless drills for pocket holes,...
Trying to get more time in the shop again. But this weekend, I instead did a drive up to LA and went to the Costa Mesa Woodworking Show.
It was pretty weak. I think the economy has taken a big...
One other thing, dont use latex paint for anything that has a horizontal surface. The blocking will drive you nuts. I made that mistake on one of the first pieces in my shop that i painted. Now...
Be careful using hammered paint on wood vs mdf/plywood. I sent an email to the folks at Hammerite regarding usage on wood and they very strongly recommended against it, due to expansion/contraction...
Very nice work... Amazing detail.
Given your work, you might be interested in this as well. I attached a few photos of a woodworking shop/store adjacent to a really old (I think like 400+ years)...
