I use the 3M stretch wrap as well on at least some of my Thompson handles. Certainly helps in the winter and has a nice feel.
I hope to get the Thompson SRG at some point. For now I use a Crown (1-1/2"?) and it does the job well.
Another Vicmarc chuck user here. I upgraded from Nova chucks some time ago and not looking back. They just perform flawlessly.

25 years it is probably time to change them. It's not difficult but you should have a bearing splitter/puller. When I changed bearings on my 66 I used NSK bearings. If you are going to the trouble do...
WD-40 and ScotchBrite on an ROS.

There is a pretty healthy after-market trade in Unisaws and parts. Looks like you have some excellent choices. My first table saw was a Powermatic contractor saw with 1.5HP and it was enough to max...
Mike if you have the time and inclination go for it. You will have a like-new or better-than-new machine to enjoy. If you are going to the trouble change the bearings and belts too.

In this case I believe the typical protocol is to connect to the slow speed, and run the hz up above 60 to get higher speeds. I'm not an expert though and did not sleep at a Holiday Inn so get...
Given Wayne's comment I'll clarify that I use glass beads for blasting. Has worked great on a number of vintage machines.
Mike, it looks pretty good. It seems the feet are always a bit rusty...
With a pancake compressor you will get maybe 30 seconds of sand blasting then wait two minutes for it to fill up. My neighbor has a 60 gal Husky from the BORG on his blast cabinet and I still have to...
They are made in the USA by a family business too, unlike lookalikes.
Oh man Rick, that's terrible. I hope you find out what happened. Hopefully you can get back to woodworking soon.
I have one too for this purpose, though I try to remember to dry rags before...
Roxul insulation is made for sound insulation. You might also use a layer of Homosote under the top layer of drywall. It has a sound diffusion aspect. Used on theater stage decking.

Agree. I wasn't particularly clear in that last sentence. I was asking if the tire that came off in the beginning of the story above was also urethane, replaced at some earlier time. Rubber tires are...
I have a 141 just two years older than yours. Wonderful saw. The wheels are not crowned so I don't know that the urethane tires are right for that saw. Typically you would install rubber tires and...
Good call. Sounds like it could be various collected parts rather than a whole saw. I know at 82 I will want to make things rather than hunt down parts and do a full restore.
Wide trunnions sound like '60's era. My 1968 66 has them. High quality bones there if no breaks etc. I'd go a bit higher than Matt, maybe $200-400 depending on the variables. Needs work which you...
Another option is to go directly to Starrett.
I have a dedicated brush and pail. Just rinse the brush with water after using and put back in the pail for next time. Haven't tried spraying.

I've been enjoying my Excalibur. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned.
I've had the Woodpeckers drill press table for several years and love it. No problems and highly recommended if you have too much going on to deal with building your own. The one occasion I had to...

I like Dri-Slide, a dry moly/graphite spray that dries.
Once you get a taste of the good stuff there's no going back.
