I have used the Monster system and replaced it with, what I think is an even better articulated system, the Gizmo from JT Turning Tools.
Very high quality system.
They have a website at...
It took awhile, but some of you asked me to post pictures with the final finish. Here they are, just rattle can lacquer. Semi-gloss finish. I put, what I call, a medallion piercing on the opposite...
Thanks for all the great compliments from everyone! I cannot receive a greater feeling than to receive this kind of acknowledgement from my fellow woodturners.
I will make sure I post a picture...
Hi everyone,
I don't post much, but wanted to share this piece with everyone.
My niece's husband asked me to make it for his wife for their anniversary.
It is a piece of applewood 7 1/4" H X 6"W....
As is typical in most of your work I have seen, it is your attention to the details that makes this so special.
Really nice job! Thanks for sharing.
Looks like hickory to me.
I own the Jordan 3/4" hollowing tools including the straight tool. Love 'em! One of the better investments in hollowing tools I've made. I also got the armbrace handle from John Jordan and wanted to...
I really like your style with these jars. You are an inspiration to me to try to duplicate what you are doing. Really good style and use of a piece of wood to bring out it's best.
Thanks for...
Really hard to choose between the two. Both color combinations are gorgeous, but I lean towards the black. Lots of good ideas for color combinations and different types of wood to use. Can't wait to...
I bought my DVR XP the same year Katrina hit New Orleans, so I've had it awhile. Decided last year to add the remote retro kit. It really is handy like everyone has said, the only problem I've had...
Nice looking piece Kathy.
I've used the steel wool/vinegar solution on walnut and mesquite and was amazed how quickly they will ebonize those woods.
I've obtained some black gesso, but haven't...
Kathy, Can't help you with your problem, but I also have the DVR XP remote control and will be interested to hear your opinion of it. I get mixed results with my remote. It seems, at critical times,...
As for length of the handle, I find it seems to work best for me if it is long enough to tuck under my forearm short of the elbow for the larger bowl gouges. That tends to be in the range of 16"....
Nice pieces Kathy. I really like the looks of the sisso.
("I didn't get the texture that David achieved, but it was only after I was done that I realized I hadn't followed his instructions...
My wife overheard him reading his wifes poem. She LOVED it!! I'm not quite sure how to take her reaction.
Great job on all the forms. I especially love the form on the final piece!
Great score, Kathy! I've been lucky enough to turn some carob. It is one of my favorite woods to turn. Great color and easy on the tools. I'm sure the people in the club will greatly appreciate...
Congratulations to you also Kathy. You Arizona guys are lucky to be able to get so much mesquite to turn. I have had a few opportunities to turn some and it's a great wood to work with.
Very nice pieces Jason. Especially like Relic I!
Yeah Kathy, that's my brother. The picture I posted was from the same wood.
In discussions I had with him about that piece, he mentioned the pytlik dye process as a potential for that piece and...
I attached a picture of a River Birch vessel I turned. I didn't bleach mine, but died the natural wood purple and sanded back and applied a lacquer finish.

I agree with the no collar, no finial crowd. Great piece of wood and masterful hollowing job!
I just went thru the process of getting a compressor. I had a smaller unit (2 gallon) that worked alright for blowing dust around. But, when blowing chips out of a hollow form, the capacity of the...
I have a Monster articulated system on my Nova DVR. I do not have the bed extension and have no desire for one. Unless you are going to do long spindle work or do not want to remove your tailstock...
